If it is smart, it consumes battery power, whether you use the actuator to control it, or control it manually.
If you remove the batteries, or if they're dead, it isn't smart anymore.
Just as - one can pop the Third Reality actuators off, move a light switch, and pop them back on again. That would not consume battery power, but the change in state would not be reported to the zigbee coordinator either.

Seen these in passing, no experience with them. 
Try this with a smart lock. Put fresh batteries in. Make sure the battery reports 100%. Use the thumbturn or key exclusively a few times a day for a month. The battery will report less than 100%.
There is no smart device that operates without consuming energy.

I'm not suggesting anything you're saying... so I've still no idea what your point is because it doesn't counter nor support nor something else one that I made.
Regardless of that, my car is still a car with with or without fuel and I can push said car down the road in neutral without fuel... and it's still a car.

Simple. With the smart lock, it has a physical connection from the lever/tab you can turn with your fingers to move the lock mechanism. With the Third Reality device, there is no physical connection between the pushbutton and the light switch's lever to move it. The button merely sends a signal to the control electronics which then controls the motor that moves the mechanism to toggle the switch on or off. This also reports the state to the Hubitat (or other) hub. That is the difference.
By the way, good luck with the Moes device. It isn't on the compatibility list. It may or may not work.

I have had devices that sounded good in theory but ended up going back because they would only pair as "device" and would not work. Sometimes, there is a community integration that will make those devices work. Sometimes, there isn't. That is the reality. I hope that it does work. It looks like it would be a great device if it does. I hope you will post your results when you get it and install it.
