I had the Aeotec switch on an electric hot water tank. Just the 2 240 wires plus ground. No neutral. Worked great.

Great to hear it works fine for resistive loads. Inductive loads can be another story. FWIW the manual says it can take a 5HP motor. I'd make sure there's an air gap switch upstream of it in the same location.
