Yeah, that’s gonna grab some attention. Here is a situation. In the past I have been able to leave logs running in an open tab forever and never had an issue. In the last I’m gonna say 4 to 6 months I have noticed I am no longer able to run logs for any useful amount of time. If logs are left open for more than about a minute or two, my computer locks up and logs just keep running. I loose control of the keyboard and mouse. Task Manager? Nope CTRL ALL Del just goes to security option the back to logs. Power down? Nope. Just held the power button two ful minutes and it never shut down. What has happened with logs that they are cause these problems I never had this before? Is there another, less invasive way to get my logs, maybe splunk?
edit
Ctrl +power to emergency restart also will not break the hold these logs have on my computer.
The main reason I did , was because no, can't look at past logs. if its not on the screen it doesnt exsist. clicking see more does not show anymore. that has been like that for at least a few years.
I would tend to agree, except it only happens with ithis very specific situation .
No. Click bait is intended to get people to mindlessly click stuff with no engagement. That is not the intetnion. The intetnion here is to grab attention to foster ideas and discussion. I really could car how many clicks were gotten , if the discussion is had and some ideas and solutions are suggested.
If I am remembering correctly you normally use a browser called "Brave" ?
If you have a Windows PC, try using Edge in an InPrivate window (open browser then Ctrl-Shift-N to open inPrivate).
Also you could try doing a reboot with advanced > rebuild and purge logs. Just in case there is some run away log file clogging things up.
If none of that works, with logs open Press F12 for developer console. Look in top right for any errors or warnings icons, click them to show the errors. Post screenshot. For me, on Live or Past logs I have no errors. I can go to Past logs and click show more without any problems.
FWIW, I have had a Live Logs tab open for years on end -- it's always open. I use it whenever I'm doing dev work, which is most days.
Brave is not a browser that is tested with the hub. This is undoubtedly a browser related issue. Not blaming the browser, just observing that this works for most users with other browsers, mainly Chrome, Edge and Safari.
I recalled you saying this previously, that why its bothered me.
Brave is based on chromium, same as Edge or opera. I have used brave with the hub since i switched from ST. And but was brave i was able to leave open in the past. What ever is causing it has only cropped up recently. I will give it a try on edge and see if it occurs there.
Im. Not necessarily saying it a hub issue either, only that my observation is it only occurs when running logs. .
Hit F12, then clear the cache, see if that fixes. If not, post the version of browser you are running so that others who don't have this problem, like @jkudave can compare.
I will just say this..... as a Vivaldi (chromium bases) user, lumping all chromium based browsers in the same category is not correct.
Often times, each of these apps has deviations in thier apps to a "standard" chromium browser. These differences are often what some people prefer for Opera, Brave, or in my case, Vivaldi. In my experience, those differences can (and HAVE) broken things that work on other chromium browsers. For instance, I am still able to run some extensions in Vivaldi that other browsers have already deprecated. Another instance was with one update to Vivaldi, they had an issue where using a mouse to click links on a tablet, would instantly crash the app.
Not saying that your issue is with Brave or not. Just saying that using other Chromium based browsers to exclude the browser as an issue might not be the most correct logic.
It would be simple enough for OP to try another browser, and/or another PC, to see whether this issue persists or not. That would probably narrow down the possible underlying problems.
Agreed
I keep Chrome, Firefox, and Vivaldi on all of my devices just for this purpose.
One browser, contact the developer. Chrome/Vivaldi Only (or Firefox Only), suck it up and wait for updates. ALL browsers, double check my system by trying different devices, and on different networks if possible, then contact the developers of the site/application with ALL of the testing results that I can provide.
(*Edited to add that cache clearing, open close broswers apps, and restarting devices are also understood steps of the testing process)
So playing with it a bit. Brave, Edge, Chrome are all doing it,
Browser, yes. PC, no. Don’t have extra of those lying around. Brave, Edge and Chrome all doing it. Whatever is driving it is keeping end task or emergency shut down and even holding the power button down for 10 sec from working. The only way to stop it is to pull the power and wait for the battery to run down.
I actually clear my cache in exit and even go in separately a few times a week, but yes, I have been doing that. It doesn’t seem to help.
I will give this a try, because probably can hurt anything.
I was looking at the logs the other night noticed just a a whole bunch of logs for the influx DB. Iwent in an disabled logging, and that seems to have helped quite a bit. As a small test I just left logs open and running ffor about 45 minutes with no noticeable degredation. Previously, within about 10 minutes things would start to get really unstable.
Yep, I know, that is what was surprising me. But when it get going, nothing works to reboot it except pulling power and letting the battery run down.
I think I figured out what was causing the issue. I need to run another test to verify after I ran that scan @jkudave suggested. It appears it was logging for influx causing the issues. Im not sure why i still had it turned on,
After a little more testing this morning, it turns out the Influx DB was NOT causing the issues. I did the scan @jkudave recommended, came up nothing found. I'm still having the issue, though it takes a little longer to happen. It happens on Chrome, Chromium, Brave and Edge. Still had the Issue couldnt do CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the take manager or shut down by holding the power button (held it down a full 2 minutes). I was going to try it on a linux machine, but there is an unrelated issue there. I am really stumped on this one. Does anyone have and more ideas?
