Lighting Group Speed

From all of my testing about this (and reading the code), it sure seems as though all you have to do is to click Done in Group-2.1, and then reopen the app to get any added devices to be available in the pull down lists. Nevertheless, I've added a button to cause the lists to be refreshed. This feature will be in the next release.

I use an "All Lights" Group from the HE Groups & Scenes app to include all my lights (50+ zwave switches). It takes about 60 seconds for them all to turn off. That's a lot better than the 5 minutes being reported here, but is there any way to speed that up? I've got the Optimize On/Off option checked.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the vast majority of my switches are dimmers. And I haven't set them up to turn off instantly. They ramp down. So I wonder if the delay I'm getting is caused by the dimmers each individually taking 1 second to turn off, and that adds up serially.

If your devices update their state automatically without issue (zwave plus or well behaved zigbee) you could enable optimize on/off. I read (from @bravenel) that when enabled it won’t send an on/off command to devices that are already in the state being requested. I would imagine it would have a greater impact on zwave performance since there is no group messaging.

Sorry, by "checked off" I meant I have it enabled. So, that's the optimized timing....

I’m betting that is the case. I have replaced all of my indoor zwave plus dimmers with zigbee. I noticed a huge improvement in response time for shutting off the downstairs lights, which now completes in a couple seconds. I always saw a delay in any group with zwave dimmers. My zwave plus are now only used for exterior lighting which is less time sensitive in my use case.

As it turns out, I was actually using Scenes instead of Groups. Turning off all lights via a Scene is way slower than turning off all lights in a Group. Lesson learned...
