I have plant lights mounted to walls but the lights trrigger a family member's migraines.
So I need the plant lights to turn off whenever there is motion detected/activated and remain off for let's say 5 minutes until motion is no longer detected then turn back on when the "coast is clear." The lights need to be running between 7 am and 7 pm but not blasting people in the face when they enter this area.
The lights are on Sonoff Plugs with Generic Zigbee Drivers. From the Devices menu, they work just fine to turn on and off.
I've tried Rule Machine, Room Lighting, and nothing appears to be working.
Any ideas what might be happening? I realize it's an unusual rule in that I need something to turn off when motion is detected, vs. typical usage.
This kind of an unusual use case but as I understand it the lights would never come on until any of the motion sensors show active and then all of them go inactive for 5 min. In other words there's nothing in there to turn the lights on at 7am - they will only turn on after the motion sensors have all been inactive. You could turn on logging to confirm.
What if you did this with two rules? One just turns the lights on at 7am and off at 7pm, and another turns them off when there's motion and back on when there's no motion for 5 min? Something like this might work. You might need to consider the use case where someone triggered the motion sensor after 6:55pm since they would turn off, the schedule would expire, and they would dutifully turn back on... would take some fiddling I bet to get it to work but maybe the following is a starting point:
Yeah that's the conclusion I came to.
But it's opposite of what you said: on when there is no motion detected and off when there is.
That aside, I've been having some weird issues with Rule Machine and Room Lighting recently. Sometimes things work and other times they don't. I'm finding better luck with Basic Rules and Simple Automation Rules for some odd reason.
I ended up rewriting everything using two separate Simple Automation Rules and everything seems to be working according to plan:
Trigger lights to come on at 7:00 AM and off at 7:00 PM
