I have a closet light connected to a smart motion sensor.
Right now motion sensor turns the light on at last brightness setting. I’m wanting to do a bit more set the brightness to 30% if in the middle of the night but 100% during the day type setup.
I plan on just tweaking the rule that turns the light on when motion is triggered to include time of day logic, but thought there may be a better way to do this. I want the light to turn on as quickly as possible. Right now the delay between motion and light on is almost zero. Don’t want any logic to cause awkward delays.
Is there a better way to do this or just do it via Rule Machine?
I do this via Rule Machine in a few automations, and there are no delays. Both the dimmers in the example shown below are Zooz dimmers. Here's the rule:
For a single light, this is probably one of the best/simplest ways to do this.
I use modes, variables and RM to do the samething, but i’m keeping all the bulbs in my house at the same temp and brightness across Day/Evening/Night light settings. There are a lot of different yet valid ways to automate something. Yours is perfectly good.
I’m using a zooz 4 in one Q Sensor as my motion sensor.
When I did this transition my on/off with motion was triggered via “basic rules”. I had to move to “rule machine” to do the logic for time of day.
Oddly enough without changing any of the settings on the sensor it seems to have become less sensitive.
There is a little blue led that blinks when it sees motion.
Before the rule switch i could be outside the closet just sneaking past and id see the blue light flash (with subsequent lights turned on). Now there are times I have to be about 2 feet in front of the room before I see the blue light flash and then subsequent lights turn on.
