That's what study's are for:
and dont forget spare parts storage:
When I built this house, I wanted to put a big shop right in the middle of the 1st floor. But, nooooo, my wife said we had to have a kitchen.
Extra plates, definitely, if you're going to play around w/PETG. That stuff is just the most dangerous glue I have ever touched, outside day old raw sourdough bread dough. [shudder]
Something like this, unless you already have a glue-stick:
Bed scraper (or print one after your printer arrives).
Bottle of IPA.
Some Acetone, too, maybe.
Literally LOL. So funny.
And of course I mean funny/odd that you're wife said no.
I cant recall the last time I used glue stick for something, and I've never ever needed Acetone.
IPA yes (both types ..... ).
Who doesn't keep gallons of ace-tone on hand?
Wife has completely taken over our office, we have no separate 'study.' I am also open to you moving next door so we can share your study.
I saw multiple reports on the interweb of people having luck w/getting stuck stuff off of build plates using IPA, and also using it for cleaning between prints. Also folks here/interweb using glue stick as a preventative to deal with over-adhesion.
I think the problem is you're too good at 3D printing.
OK, calibration question...when my new PEI plate arrives I'm going to re-level, re bed-tram/Z Offset, etc.
I'm always a little confused about the amount of drag I want when doing bed-tramming with a piece of paper. I try to get it so there is just a little "scratchiness" when I move the paper underneath the nozzle...is that about right? This is so subjective for me...
That's because they don't raise their first layer height for PETG and are treating the symptom, not the root cause.
Hehe, I've just made most of the mistakes, and even learned from a few of them.
No need if your bed is already level.
Honestly, I'd just grab some 20 or 25 mm (depending on your current spring height, M4 aluminium spacers and throw your springs in the bin. It is worth measuring the height of them with digital calipers to get them as close to identical heights as you can - You can buy 0.1 mm shims is you need to level the heights out, but after that, you'll never need to level your bed again.
AND ABL will take care of the rest.
Look Ma, no springs!
And that's where you assume much too much. In the middle of my PETG woes I was messing around w/a lot of things and am not level, last prints showed rear of bed was higher than front (really thin first layers at the back of the plate, closer to normal at the front). ABL before printing was not resolving the difference.
Have not seen that mod discussed before. Just when I thought it was safe for me to be in the same room with my printer...
Most high end printers with ABL use solid bed mounts. eg most Voron's, Bambu Lab etc. If you are able to get the bed level with solid mounts and shims, it's the best solution.
Bearing in mind that you're levelling the bed wrt the x gantry. So unless the gantry is perfectly aligned with the y plate (along the x axis) you will definitely need to shim it. That said I've been using springs for years and rarely have to realign the bed.
Also the springs serve to provide some give in the unlikely event of a head crash (it's happened to me on occasion) so you have a second or so to react to power the printer off before the head destroys the print surface.
The Bambu printers at least recommend a glue stick for their “cool plate” which is what ships with the X1 carbon.
I guess I’m lucky in that I have an unfinished basement with enough room to put it down there. Although time will tell if the table I have down there will be wobble free.
True, and I must admit that this surprised me, given how advanced their printer is.
Anker shipped some PLA Plus on a kickstarter accessory deal I signed up for when I bought the printer. I just used half a spool today and -other than the higher price and need for higher temps- I don't see enough difference to warrant buying Plus again.
There’s not much difference between the 2 at all.
Warning: First World Problem Report (i.e., be prepared for some serious whining/whinging over a relatively minor inconvenience).
New PEI plate arrived...but plate is really not the word, more bowl...ARGHHHHH!!
It was immediately obvious there were going to be issues...
There she is, my very pretty gold bowl.
Tried to bend it back but it's not willing so far to totally re-adjust to a life as a flat piece of metal. Going to get it replaced. So annoying...
