Hmmm, hard to comment until it happens, but it doesnt sound ideal.
Any PCTG users here? I'm seeing it compared to ASA but with little or no smell issues. How about long-term UV resistance?
I havenāt tried it, ASA is expensive enough as it is.
deep search on Amz-US: PCTG = $29 || ASA=$20
But ASA needs ventilation indoors, right? Warps?
I use Prusa ASA which is expensive, but seems to be very low in toxic fumes. I canāt smell any difference from PLA.
I donāt have any issues with warping either, but I use Dimafix on my bed surface which is simply amazing!
Thanks (I've mentioned before that ever chat with you costs me money, hhh.)
I'll buy the $20 ASA and run a test indoors.
update: Deeper AMZ search turned up ASA @ $14 kilo
Iāve found that Prusa ASA is noticeably better than eSun ABS+ and a few other ABS variants Iāve tried, I just wish it was cheaper.
ASA, like ABS, does have styrene as one of the components and both put out fumes that are not healthy to breathe. ABS is worse, but while ASA might not have so intense an odor, it is not harmless.

I had not heard about PCTG before reading about it here. I'm not sure how it rates compared to the other filaments in the article.
That is true, thankfully I have good ventilation in my study. That said, Im thinking of getting a proper air quality monitor - currently I only measure Co2.
But also not unexpected, walled garden and all.
True, I donāt own any Bambu printers, but I have recommended them to loads of ppl who are really happy with them.
Thankfully, most of those folk use Bambu Slicer and have no desire to try Orca Slicer.
Shared this with my son who has a Creality and also a Bambu printer (He pretty much only uses his Bambuā¦). He does use the Orca Slicer, and did some research. Found that Bambu and Orca are working together to resolve this. Will see how it pans out!
I'd suggest also voicing concerns on the BL forums. Better to rally against bad announcements and be pleasantly surprised than to take it on the chin and accept what is doled out.
Thatās good to hear, Bambu still work with the open sourced X1 Plus firmware, so Iād have been surprised if they cut OS off.
Latest from Orca is that BL is holding firm and Bambu Connect is the only way forward.
Bambu has gone from my go-to recommendation for newbies wanting a printer who are willing to pay a bit more for less hassle to an actively do-not recommend. And they're staying that way, forever. I don't care if they walk this back, they've shown that they think acting this way is OK. Even if they reverse course, it's just a matter of time before they do something else anti-customer.
Voron is a bit of a pain to build, but I'm really glad my printers are all 100% open source and completely immune to this sort of nonsense.
Back to recommending Creality for cheap printers and Prusa for anyone wanting a higher end one, I guess.
Same on current recommendations but whether it'll be forever depends on IF and How Far BL gets its ā ā ā kicked up between its shoulder blades.
That said, I suspect that -like cheap-to-buy Visio TVs- that the hardware & generic supplies aren't particularly profitable and frog-marching users to their cloud and software give them valuable user-data to use and/or sell.
Walmart bought Vizio - The Verge
"$2.3 billion transaction closed on Tuesday. The retail giant says the acquisition will help bolster its advertising business, as Platform Plus ā the TV-makerās advertising and data division ā āaccounts for all the companyās [Vizio's] gross profit.ā
Now that Iāve had time to think about this, I have fixed feelings about this situation, most consumers wonāt care, but Bambu are really getting us hobbyists off side, and we helped them get as big as they are.
As someone who has recommended them to dozens of friends and family, it feels like a kick in the teeth. I have a P1S in my Amazon wish list, if this continues, Iād buy a Creality machine instead.
Thereās a pretty good summary of the situation here;
Wonder how far this will go, they are trying to make it a closed system like Apple but I'm pretty sure the fan boys are far less then the tinkerers like most of us here are. Next move would be to start charging people for the cloud access or else the printer won't work, now fan boys will start to worry. If they aren't stopped right away in there tracks, we might just have bricks, I mean printers with no way to have them work because the servers were shut down when the company goes belly up. Does this ring a bell to any of you in the smart house world.
I for one have blocked the MAC address of my printer to access the internet, changed it to local mode and will keep using Orca as my only slicer. I doubt that I would need any new features that they might make available via a firmware update and if that happens, I'm sure that the community will find a way to use custom firmware on all there printers (not just the X1C).
So apparently Bambu have their own print farm management system which is subscription based - it's starting to look a lot like this change is to force print farm owners to use it, and everyone else is collateral damage.
Still a really dumb move, it'll turn all the BTT Panda Touch devices into bricks and push us hobbyists back to Creality or other brands.
