Let's talk 3D printers!

Well the bad news is Sovol doesn't make replacing the thermistor easy on the SV06 Plus.
The good news is Amazon sells the hotend assy cheap enough it doesn't matter.

A little disassembly, cleaning, reassembly.
Stuck in the factory Benchy GCode file and let 'er rock.
Looking good!

ORCA question: Is there a way to adjust depth of color painting to X layers or mm? Or to use the number of top and/or bottom layers? I found lots requests for these online but no good answers.

Check out Anycubics. You should be able to get one cheap. PLA is probably best and easiest to deal with (no printer enclosure needed and less brittle than ABS).

Good question - you can certainly change colours at specific layers, but depth within a given layer, Im not sure about.

EX: I'm doing 4mm thick clear petg panel @.2mm layer height. I want to lightly color top & bottom metallic red but try to keep it translucent. I'd like to set the Fill tool to 3 layers deep or .6mm

Amazon has the SV07 plus for $239

I just picked one up. I guess it's not a ton of money to get my feet wet and see if it's a hobby I enjoy.

Search on CC3D filament. Excellent performance. Cheap. 1 or 2 day delivery in my rural area. I've burned through 100+ spools (PETG, but 4-5 PLA).

I started with Amz's Overture PLA filaments but ran into repeated issues with spools being tangled internally, so I went looking elsewhere.

If you buy from Aliexpress, search for JAYO filaments.

Sunlu PLA + is also excellent. On their official eBay store, they usually have deals on multiple spools in different colours. Eg $79 AUD for 5 spools.

Sunlu: I buy their clear petg (Amz: $16 today) ...a little stringy, but that's my fault. I print hot-n-fast and almost never dry the filament. CC3D Pro Grey handles my abuse just fine ($13). It is my go-to filament.

I scored big on Amz petg (mostly translucent metallic) filaments yesterday, some as as low as $8/k. A couple of petg gradients for $16-18. I buy a metallic bronze petg (Atomic) that happens to match dark brown leather furniture --no deal. $30, IIRC. That hurt. I want 1st class cheap, heh.

Anyone in the Denver area interested in a sovol printer? I took it apart a while ago for a clogged hot end and when I reassembled it the bed and hot end hit. I made some posts in this thread about it. Probably an easy fix or could be used for parts. I upgraded to a Bambu labs printer and now the sovol is taking up space in the garage. PM me if you’re interested.

I just upgraded to a Creality K1C. I am really impressed with this machine. My Elegoo Neptune-X is currently sitting in my shed (covered, of course). I have not decided whether to keep or sell it.

Yikes, Klipper is violent.
Set it up on my SV06+ and tried a default Benchy, did not go well.

Time for some more calibrations/tuning.

Which model Solvol printer? SV06? SV07? SV08? That might be helpful to say.

The Creality has Klipper and during the calibration, did the vibrating for input shaping. The first Benchy I printed, the printer was rocking! It has rubber shock absorbing feet. If it didn't, it might have walked off the platform where I have it. :astonished:

It’s an sv05

I'm using the bassmanator configs for my SV06 and SV06+, prints well for me, other than PETFG overhangs looking kind of chunky, but I probably had that when I was using the original firmware as well.

Those are way tamer compared to the default Sovol slicer/profiles that I found somewhere on their website for the Klipper Screen kit.
Wtf? 10,000 mm/s² anyone? :face_with_spiral_eyes:

gaack

yikes

And they do a much better print. Although not as entertaining.

better

I've tuned my slicer settings up a bit higher, but I find if I go too fast I end up with layer shifts.

Looks like Sovol has a few too many printers ATM, the Sv06 Plus is on sale today for US$199.00 c/w free delivery (and a free spool for some locations).
I quite like mine, very usable prints with only needing the Z offset manually calibrated.
And lots of online information for upgrades.
