Kasa Integration and KP200

I'm having an issue with the built in Kasa Integration app not recognizing Kasa KP200 dual wall outlets after a firmware update. The Kasa KP200 dual outlets are Hardware version 3.0 and firmware version 1.1.0. Before updating to firmware version 1.1.0, my Hubitat C7 recognized and could control the KP200, but afterwards, the built in Kasa Integration app stopped communicating with the KP200. I have confirmed that my Hubitat C7 and the Kasa KP200 are still on the same network. The KP200 have also been assigned static IP addresses in my router (and are within the LanSegments: [192.168.1], Ports [9999], hostRange: [1,254]. I removed the KP200 devices from my Hubitat C7 and performed a fresh "Scan LAN for Kasa devices and add". After the scan, the Kasa Integration app still does not show the KP200 as available to add (but shows all other available Kasa smart plugs not already added). I realize I may be doing something wrong, but believe I've followed all steps to scan and find the KP200 correctly. Hoping others in the community who have a KP200 can chime in and confirm if they are having any issues (or aren't) after updating the KP200 to firmware version to 1.1.0. If Hubitat team or community confirms there is an issue, hoping the Hubitat team can reach out to David Gutheinz for a fix.

Background info:
Hubitat C7
Platform version 2.4.3.164
Connected via Ethernet cable
Have assigned Static IP for the Hubitat C7 in my router

Two possibilities. In order of most likely. TP-Link (Kasa and Tapo devices) has created a block-out from third party services (Amazon, etc) unless selected by the user. At the same time, they are transition some (not all) Kasa legacy devices to the Smart security and protocol (for your device, most likely not).

The steps to try - in order:

  • Go to the Kasa or Tapo Phone App and your settings.
    • Kasa app: tap Me, then Settings, and look for Third-Party Compatibility to toggle it on
    • Tapoapp: go to Me > Tapo Lab > Third-Party Compatibility and turn it on
      • (The me on new version is the person icon in the upper left corner.)
  • Try the built-in Integration again.
  • If that does not work, the community Tapo Integration should work. It will require credentials; however, all communications are local.

PLEASE: Tell me if this succeeds and if so, which integration provided the response.

Thanks Dave! You were correct. I had to enable Third-Party Compatibility in the Tapo App. Oddly enough, the Kasa app does not show a generic "Third-Party Compatibility" on/off toggle like the Tapo App. I vaguely remember reading about turning the "Third-Party Compatibility" on somewhere (probably in your instructions). Once again, thanks for pointing this out and the fast response!

After turning on "Third-Party Compatibility" in the Tapo app, my C7 lost communications with the KP200 after about 2 to 3 hours. Toggling "Third-Party Compatibility" off and then on again in the Tapo app restored communications, however it seems this might only be a temporary way to establish communications with my C7. No issues with my other Kasa smart plugs such as EP10. Will keep stability posted, but considering replacing the KP200 with the original dumb duplex outlet and using EP10 instead as they're cheap and stable.

others have reported; however, it is only one time. I guess you have to convince TP-LInk.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if the KP200's stabalize over the next few days. I'd been using two KP200's since July 2021, so they had a good run, but I've decided to revert back to the original dumb duplex outlets and use EP10's instead (not as slick looking, but worth the trade off for better stability). Walled garden ecosystems seem to be the trend these days, so let's hope TP-Link doesn't mess with their mainstream wi-fi smart plugs.
