I hadn't looked at their stuff in awhile, so I went to their website. Scrolled the page, and in big bold capital letters was this pronouncement: BUILT ON FUTURE-PROOF TECHNOLOGIES
and thought what a ridiculous statement that was, and then it occurred to me that is what almost every company says. Thankfully, they are always (almost) wrong. Technology marches forward (again mostly).
Ah, but then along came the torx bit. Onward...
I'm not proud, but I strip out torx head screws all the time..
How good are those Canadian square screw heads? Like for decks?
Electrical stuff seems to use that as well.
Just use the same ones consistently, please!
Previous owner of my house had built some outdoor structures, and when I went to repair or remove them it was not unsual for me to find he had randomly used Phillips, slot, torx, and nails on the same structure. I'd find nails right next to Phillips, torx and slot together, etc. Whatever he had in his parts bin (or found when reaching into his pocket) appeared to be the approach. Just freaking annoying...especially the nails or slot as they were a complete PITA to remove.
Yes - slots should be outlawed.
In my mind, if a thing has been replaced with something newer and better, but is still supported and used, it is future proof.
The straight slot screw was replaced by the allen head screw, but the straight slot is still available and you can still buy a straight slot screwdriver.
USB 2.0 was replaced by USB 3.0, but USB 3.0 is still backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
My Hubitat 7 hub was replaced with a Hubitat 8 hub, but the Hubitat 7 is still supported and works, and transferred right over to my Hubitat 8.
When my 8-tracks tapes were replaced by Cassette Tapes, I tried putting the Cassettes into my 8-track player. I was actually able to fit several of them into the 8-track player. But they didn't play. Not future proof. When CD's replaced my Cassette tapes they would not fit in the Cassette player. NOT future proof.
etc.
They should be the standard I will take these over everything else!
