JascoPro Series?

Dealer only? WTF.
800 chip, no mention of LR.

edit: Seems you can buy one direct from that site, but at twice the price of the UltraPro 700 series, hardly worth it, especially since there it doesn't support long range.

Luckily zwave products are certified and it seams to point to it supporting LR. IDK If this helps.

Thanks very much for the links.

ZWN4016 , is apparently what I'd be looking for, (toggle switch).

Not sure it'd be worth the 50 bucks just to see if it'll smart start pair LR.

Maybe in the interest of science.

I would change every switch in my house from toggle to decora and install Zooz before I would pay $50/ea for the JascoPro devices.

But I have a current disdain for Jasco's leadership and consumer unfriendliness (and pricing).

What happened...?

RE: Price - i'm still switch and dimmer packages for around $45 on Amazon. Not bad.

That's their old stuff. If you want 800 series or LR capability it is $50/ea.

Their old stuff is fine, but why would I buy a new z-wave device today based on an old chip and no LR support? Especially when the Zooz 800LR devices are the same price or cheaper most of the time.

OK, I get that, if you want LR (and I do too) the pricing is def. way high. Was thinking there was some broader issue across their product line or a support contact interaction that concerned you.

No, their 700 series products work fine. And the price isn't too bad if you buy in multipacks.

Yep, that's always been my experience with the 700 and previous versions.

Actually I'm probably not going to replace too many of my switches or dimmers with 800 series of any brand, simply because my "everything Jasco" setup is just working perfectly and has been for years. If I do add any 800 it might be on the switches furthest from my hubs, but even that's debatable because even my most remote switches and dimmers are working perfectly. :man_shrugging:

I'll probably want to get some 800 simply because they're the newest, but then I need to think about where I'm putting them, cuz each new 800 replacing a 700 or 500 will weaken my mesh of my 700 and lower Z-Wave.

I think Zooz does something similar, getting rid of the 700 series devices at a good price and then, or in parallel, running out the 800 series.

I just don't like this whole JascoPro thing.

The link above shows two SKUs for apparently the same product-one JascoPro and the other UltraPro.

Who the heck knows.

I'd say wait until it hits Amazon.

edit: I like the color-switching on the 700 series toggle switch, since I'm partial to the toggle format. Zooz only has that on their paddle switches. I don't know about any others.

It still is tempting to buy one (only) and see if it can be included as LR.

I'm confused by this statement. If you really wanted the 800 devices*, couldn't you include them as mesh until the time when you didn't need the repeaters, and then exclude/re-include as LR?

*No shade at all intended. 'Perfect is the enemy of good enough' is my motto for HA devices. I've spent a lot of time and money to move from an 8.0/10 device to an 8.01/10, or -even worse- a 5/10 device.

Yes, you could.

But he is right that if one were going to transition/replace existing mesh devices to LR (not that anyone NEEDS to), they do have to think about how that affects their mesh.

In my experience you really need very few mesh devices to have a healthy mesh, unless you have concrete or plater walls, or a lot of interference. Multiple stories can play in too though. I've covered a 4000 sqft house very reliably with as few as 5 (hub centrally located, 5 devices spread out radially from there).

No shade felt, no worries. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think the issue is I don't match up w/above...I don't have a "really want" feeling on this. I do think I want to get a few LR switches to play with (boy do I sound like a hopeless geek when I say that), but my Z-Wave mesh is 100% reliable so any LR switch purchases are in the "I'm bored, what can I change up for the fun of it" category.

So like I said above, I'll likely get a few for the periphery of my mesh where their LR capabilities will be used, and let it go at that for now. And I will make sure to check to see who's repeating for who (whom?) before I make any changes, don't want to create any new problems.

But they light up in different colors!

Well, I bought one. Only one.
In the interest of science, and to see if I can get it to pair LR.

I agree with you now. ■■■ holes.

I was curious if they were actually going to sell it to you. They aren't supposed to.

They don't want to sell to consumers anymore? Fine by me. Bleep em.

My sentiment as well.
