Hello Hubitat Friends! 2 or 3 years ago I migrated my ZWave network from my Vera to a Hubitat. At the time there was no choice but to do it device by device and there is no question that the hubitat is a superior ZWave controller! This past weekend I found myself helping a friend do the exact same thing. Since I had recommended the Vera at the time and was now recommending the Hubitat.
What I can’t find anywhere is how to transfer or migrate the network from one controller to another. Is this still not possible? I am not concerned with their automations or scripts or other such things. I’ll happily rebuild those for them as I did my own. What upsets me that I have to spend an entire day at their home removing each and every device from the old network and adding them to the new network. Is there really still not a way to do this? I can put the Vera into transfer mode and let it give the entirety of the network information to another controller. Is this still not good enough? I’m a software developer so I have zero expectations of exporting and importing the scripting and other logic from the old system to the new, I am only interested in not having to go through their house and resetting every single light switch of which there are many! Did I miss this somewhere? Is there something about the ZWave spec that I don’t understand that makes this problematic even as they claim that it’s a thing that every other controller supports? Any suggestions or pointers to the documentation are greatly appreciated, or even just a search term I could use to find what I’m looking for. There is either something I’m totally not understanding about the difficulty of doing this or I’m going to have them return it and get something from which I can import that network. It’s more than a hundred switches and I have zero interest in helping them walk through the house to find every one and explain why the network is completely broken until we’re done...
Having looked through the open source code of several competing pieces of software I can’t imagine this is so difficult. Yes, the actual details of the low level protocol is still protected by having to pay several grand for the protocol document, but once you parse it the handling of it is available to look at. It would really help me and a lot of people that would be happy to buy your product if we could do this!
