Is the new Apple App as unstable as the reviews in the Apple App Store state? I can live with the fact that it’s not as user friendly as the previous app, but several recent reviews mentioned instability when downloading the new app and onboarding. I only use the Hubitat for local control of my lights with an iPad or iPhone and to run rules to turn lights on or off while on vacation. Is the new app going to interfere with my use of these features?
To confirm, are you talking about the Apple HomeKit (phone) app?
I haven't ever experienced any instability with that app itself, but (like so many other integrations), there's no shortage of ways for soemthing to go sideways before getting to the UI portion of the experience.
Thanks for the reply. No, I’m talking about the Hubitat Elevation App in the Apple Store.
The new app might still have a few small quirks, but the staff is actively working on it and providing it with the required improvements. I have been using it since it came out in beta and have had no issue using it to access my dashboards and connect to my hub.
That said, if all I need to do is control a device, I typically do this via the HomeKit integration as it is well integrated with the iPhone and iPad.
I use it daily and it works great. I’ve never had it crash.
Thanks. I’ll look into HomeKit. I migrated from Wink to Hubitat because of Wink’s frequent/final outage, their unresponsiveness, and the subscription fee. All I want is a subscription free system that I can control from my iPhone/iPad while at home and away. I use the rules to turn lights on/off throughout the day/night when away. Been using Hubitat for a few years now and am happy with the Hubitat App, just want to make sure that I won’t have issues if I upgrade to the new App.
I like HomeKit a lot. I setup Homebridge on a Rpi a couple of years ago, before the built in integration existed. It’s been an excellent way for all iOS using members of the household to control 60+ devices.
Is there a subscription for HomeKit? I’m subscriptioned out with all of the streaming services and ad blockers I pay for now.
No subscription for HomeKit although you need a recent model appleTV or HomePod/homepod mini in order to control devices when outside of your home network.
Thanks. I don’t have a recent model Apple TV . I use an iPad for Apple TV+. I think I’ll stick with using the Hubitat mobile app.
