Is Remote Admin only available as a per month purchase? Can you purchase a year at a time (maybe at a discount)?
You could use a VPN connection to your home instead.
I may have to research how to do that. If you have an suggestions on resources, i'd appreciate it.
It is a password protected incoming 'tunnel' to your home network that effectively places your remote computer on your home network. Often your router implements this as an inbuilt option although there are other ways (not quite as easy) to do this.
I use Chrome Remote Desktop
Itβs only available at the monthly rate.
I use OpenVPN which is available on my ASUS Router. After setting up OpenVPN on my router, I installed the OpenVPN Client app on my Android phone. When I run this app, my phone is connected to my home network by a VPN tunnel which essentially has my phone connected directly to my home network. It's as if I'm at home and my phone is connected locally to my home WiFi, so I can use the Hubitat App just like I would at home. If you Google "OpenVPN" you can get instructions on how to make this work with your WiFi Router.
Depending upon your situation, the monthly rate might be an advantage. If your remote admin situation is sporadic you can sign up for remote admin only when you need it and then cancel as soon as you no longer need it. However, if you are a snowbird who spends six months at a summer location and six months at a winter location, then you can either use VPN or remote admin.
I have not tried it yet as I seldom leave home for more than a week at a time, but I know my router has VPN built in. I have also heard of people using something like Teamviewer.
