Hello,
My C-7 unit died. No light on box and no connection to the hub. Help!
How do I contact support to get help troubleshooting this?
I think I may need to buy a newc C-8 but have never done a migration.
I can find an old backup file I think however I have read that the regular backup file cannot be used to migrate??
If not what do I do if the existing hub is fried due to a short or other hardware fault?
What would this process look like??
This also may mean that all existing objects in Google home and amazon Alexa are also broken.
Can I get a CS rep to reach out or provide me a viable method to send email?
Have you tried using a different power supply and USB cable to see if the hub powers up? Sometimes, this is the simple fix.
The process would be to restore whatever backup file you do have, then re-pair your Zigbee devices (they will simply pop back into their respective Hubitat 'devices'). For Z-Wave devices, the process is more complicated - plenty of threads exist that discuss this process. For Lutron and Philips Hue bridges, everything will just start working again. WiFi devices should start working again, as long as your new hub gets assigned the same LAN IP address as your old hub. For Amazon and Google, the restore of the backup might get those back to working again after you go into each of those Apps on the new Hub and click 'DONE'.
Obviosuly, any changes since that last backup will need to be recreated manually.
That's where Hub Protect would be a life saver. If you were a Hub Protect subscriber you could be back online in 10 minutes or less, assuming you have a spare hub, or you could be awaiting a free replacement to arrive, then get back online in 10 minutes or less.
Since you are not a Hub Protect subscriber, you can restore the old backup then reset/exclude and pair/include any Zigbee and Z-Wave devices. Your rules, apps and custom code from the time when the old backup was generated will be restored.
Correct, you need a cloud based one. So if you have hub protect you can migrate, otherwise you'll have to re pair everything but can use your base restore for rules and what not.
They should be fine restoring the local backup. I would make your new hub ip the same as your old hub IP though. Best done through a DHCP reservation.
Thank you all for the replies.
Update: it's the power cable.
I was able to get connected after using usb and a different cable.
I am running an old c-5 hub. I think it might be time to upgrade.
I subscribed to hub protect for now on this hub and created a, new local backup file.
I also tried to create a cloud backup file from this hub to move to C-8. Not sure it it worked.
You could confirm if the cloud backup worked by going to Backup and Restore page. You should see a "cloud" backup in the type column. If not there, you may need to refresh the list by clicking the "Reload backups now" link at the top of the page, then select one of the "show backups" links.
