Looking through the forum, there are limited current discussions around this device and its usefulness. I only have 5 4K cameras so wondering if Camect is worth it. Looking to manage all the cameras and get snapshot notifications via hubitat and trigger at few simple activities.
There are lots of alternatives to Camect that you can on your own hardware. Frigate seems to be a popular choice. I use Scrypted/Scrypted NVR with 6 cameras.
I integrate into Hubitat using MQTT to trigger automations. For notifications, I go directly from Scrypted to Pushover.
Well, Camect (still) works well for me and probably the others who trail-blazed on it here; I was certainly much later to the party.
But haven't used it for a while now, I don't have really any issues or problems with it in daily use; never failed/went down/needed any kind of work on my side.
Camect is a nice little device but my died after 2.5 years. Never did like the way it found the cameras on it's own though. Also, my 8 cameras could bring it to it's knees. i even add that dongle thing (forget what its called) to speed it up. It helped but it would still studder and freeze often. I think they have a more powerful unit now so it may be better.
I went back to Blue Iris and had forgotten how much better it is.
I've been pretty happy with mine.
