Perhaps someone with an August can add advice. I don't have one so I don't have any specific advice for that brand.
But as I said above, try in-place first.
Most Include problems are due to a failed Exclude though. SO if you bring it in close and it still fails, then it will be even more frustrating. Previous Include attempts might have gotten far enough that additional Includes don't do anything.
So Exclude with each attempt. Hubitat's Exclude screen will say "Unknown device Excluded" OR it will identify the device... either way, getting it Excluded is very important first step. I can't tell you how many times I was SURE the Include failed only to have the Exclude tell me "(device type) Excluded" -- meaning it got far enough in the initialize cycle to get the identity of the device.
