Iris 3210-L Zigbee Zwave repeater?

Yikes, that is expensive. I got all of mine new, via various discounts, for between $5 and $10 each.

Where did you get them for that cheap? I will buy 20 at that price. LOL

Originally Lowe's coupons, then on clearance, and finally from a liquidator.

Those were fun times!

One liquidator was on eBay - the username was something like Alexsari. I bought a bunch of Iris v2 and v3 sensors from them and 6 Iris v2 plugs.

6+ years l later, I’m not using any Iris devices.

I'm still using all mine, as well as having some still NIB (or bubble wrap) because of that liquidator (teamequip).

I was looking for bulk/cheap contact sensors in early 2020 and found teamequip dumping the Iris stuff, but in lots of 100 for $500. They hadn't sold much in a year, so I contacted them and ask for smaller lots. They changed to lots of 10 and they were gone in a few months.

After they sold out, they sent me an extra 10 motion sensors as a thank you. :sunglasses:

Aren't 3.0 devices supposed to fall back to 1.2 as necessary?

I don't think it has to do with the protocol version as much as some kind of radio incompatibility. Zigbee 3.0 end-devices seem to join via a ZHA 1.2 router just fine. But at some point they drop off and then will not re-join the network via any ZHA 1.2 router.

Same here. My house is full of Lowes Iris v2 Zigbee devices that I also purchased during the coupon, clearance, and liquidator phases. They have been rock solid for many years now.I like that they all use the same battery type, and that the battery lasts a good long while.

Yep, I ordered from him as well!

Yep, I remember this liquidator as well! I appreciate that you were able to convince them to sell in lots of 10, as I bought quite a few of those lots! Thank you!

I'm pulling the trigger today and going to order some of the outlets. There are also a few automation and lighting packs that include contact sensors and motion sensors. The guys who commented on SmartThings seem to swear by this stuff. One of the sellers on eBay gave me a coupon code for 10% off, so it's pretty cheap!

The coupon code is maxnetwork10 if anyone else is interested.

Is it only the Gen2 stuff that works or the Gen3 as well.

The reason these would still be popular with ST folks is that the ST hubs use older zigbee and z-wave chipsets that are closer to what these old Iris devices use.

While both zigbee and z-wave chips/series are all supposed to be backwards-compatible, the reality is that can be rocky (and sadly, just plain untrue) -- backwards-compatibility tends to expose device-level flaws that aren't apparent when paired with chips from their original lineage.

Hopefully these work fine for you, but I would not have spent money on these old devices.

That experience is shared by many,

There's no issue with the Iris v2 and v3 end-devices (battery powered sensors). The issue lies with line-powered devices that function as repeaters/routers. They do not play nice with newer zigbee chipsets.

I have spent money on these devices, albeit years ago. They fail with newer zigbee devices - so now l have a box of old Iris v2 outlets somewhere in my attic.

Agree with all - thank you for adding the helpful additional color!

want to sell them lol.

So is Hubitat better then Smartthings? newer Zigbee and Zwave chips?

I would. Where are you located?

Yes (in the C-8 and C-8 Pro). The C-7 has a newer z-wave radio, but I think the zigbee radio is of the same generation as the SmartThings hub.

In Pennsylvania. Let me know how many you have and how much you want.

Where in PA? I’m in Harrisburg.

Philly.
