iOS Presence detection issue

Has anyone else seen issues with phones that are home and not reporting that they are home? My wife's iPhone does this frequently and she never opens the Hubitat app...not sure if that is the culprit, but as soon as I launch the app on her phone then her presence is correctly reported. Background refresh, location always on, etc is all turned on for the Hubitat app.

Is this an older iPhone that does not support “Listen for Hey Siri” when on battery? I have the same problem with her iPhone 6, regardless of whether it’s presence from the HE app or from HomeKit. But my iPhone XR has no trouble at all.

My guess is the older phones with less efficient processors and smaller batteries were allowed to go into a deeper sleep. Another hypothesis is, if your wife is anything like mine, her battery is always either dead or near dead, so the phone doesn’t trigger background presence when it is in low power mode, which kicks in automatically below 20% on an iPhone.

Our phones are the 6s (which I think was the first model to support Hey Siri) and xs and both work well most of the time, occasionally we have to reopen the app.

Her phone is an 8. How did you know her phone is always dead?? :joy: The few recent times this has happened she's been at 70+%.

I usually just grab her phone and re-open the app. I guess that is my fix for now. Thank you!

I’ve seen similar issues with the app as well and switched to the new automations in ios 13.1. I use location to hit a cloud end point which runs a rule to set presence. It has worked every time without failure.

:joy: That’s perfect for my phone that doesn’t have the problem and her phone that can’t upgrade to iOS 13.x

Guess for me, this problem is unsolvable until I upgrade her phone.
