Xfinity/Comcast has been experiencing some significant Internet outages. I understand the SF Bay area was down for several hours yesterday. The Chicago area was out over an hour this morning. I understand the Northeast was affected as well. Thanks to Hubitat. my home automation system continued functioning normally.
All of my Alexa devices were off-line, so I did lose voice control. I also lost Alexa speaks capability. However, those are minor inconveniences.
So many home automation systems are Internet based. If the Internet goes down, so does your capability of controlling your devices. That would be a significant issue.
The ability of Hubitat to function apart from the Internet is a major advantage that caused me to ditch my former Smartthings platform in favor of Hubitat. I know there are those who want to use devices controlled through the cloud by their smartphones, but when the Internet goes down, so does the functionality of your system.
Lengthy Internet outages are not that common, but in this era of people working from home, students using online schooling, etc. The Internet affects so much of our lives. Being able to take control of your own home without the Internet is huge advantage. Hurray for Hubitat Elevation!
