I finally upgraded from 2.2.3.148 to 2.2.6.140 this morning. I assumed I was going to need to upgrade my ZEN30 so the fan switch would work without continuing to use the virtual switch work around that I had been using but I wrote a small test and I find I'm now able to turn on and off the fan via RM 4.1. I have upgraded my RM 4.0 rules to remove the reference to the virtual switch and toggle the fan switch directly. That rule is humidity based so it will not trigger again until tomorrow morning's shower. But I was really surprised that I didn't need to bother with a firmware update on my ZEN30 it's still on 1.03.
