Installing Tapo H100/P316M into Hubitat - Matter

Both the P306M and the Tapo H100/H200 hubs are Matter compliant and require special handling when installing into the Hubitat Matter infrastructure.

H100/H200 are Matter Bridges and currently supports the contact sensor and motion sensor (other sensors have not yet been adopted by TP-Link). The Matter implemention for these devices Beta (has been for a year). My H100 is HW Version 1 and Firmware Version 1.5.23. Since there is no Matter code on the device nor packaging (I got mine two years ago), This is the best way to connect to Hubitat. Advantage is almost instantaneous passing of motion/contact to Hubitat.

  • Install the H100 via the Tapo phone app and verify the firmware version.
    • Install the sensors (contact / motion)
    • Open the H100 - setting in the device and locate / select "Bind to Matter (Beta). The code is at the bottom and the "Expires in XX minutes yy seconds is present.
  • Open the HUBITAT Add Device - Matter and enter this code.
  • Once installed, Open the device's page.
    • Open the devices "Device Info" page and use the the "Type" drop-down to select the type "Generic Matter Bridge". Then select SAVE.
    • Go to the "Commands page" and select "Configure". Refresh the browser page and the children will appear.

Tapo P316M is a Tapo 6-outlet power strip. Instructions:

  • There are two way to do the initiation of the device:
    • install into Alexa, SmartThings, or Google following the instructions provided by Hubitat.
    • Intall into the Tapo Phone App.
      • After initiation in the Tapo Phone , select one of the devices and go to the Device Settings page.
      • Select the Matter Setup Code. There will be an Expires in xxmin, yy sec. If so, then you use this code to install into Hubitat
  • Install into the Hubitat Matter infrastructure
    • My device comes up as a Generic Matter Outlet - but this does not allow control of the individual outlets. To add the children,
      • Device Info Page - Type. Select "Generic Matter Multi-Endpoint Switch then SAVE
      • Commands - Configure, then refresh the browser page. You now have children.

Note that if you are using the Community TP-Link Integration, it is STRONGLY recommended to do either that integration or the Matter integration - NOT BOTH.
