Innr SP 242 not turning off and permanently on

@Gerry-Innr,
I hope you can help or advise on the below.

Four of my Innr SP 242 plug sockets have been working great and not had any issues.

However, recently one of my Innr Sp 242 plug just stopped responding to the off switch and command.

Both the software and LED button is working as expected, i.e. LED light turns off and software is showing correct status, however, the plug will not turn off physically and any connected device will remain on and power consumption is reading is accurate and updates even in software off state.

Device data:
• endpointId: 01
• application: 17
• driver: 2.0.0 2023/04/29 11:26 PM
• firmwareMT: 1166-0332-17173685
• inClusters: 0000,0003,0004,0005,0006,0008,1000,0702,0B04,E001
• manufacturer: innr
• model: SP 242
• outClusters: 000A,0019
• powerCluster: 0B04
• softwareBuild: 1.7.23

I do not currently have any devices connected to the plug, but as you can see from the log below that the device is still reporting a small power although it is supposed to be in off state.

Events log

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just adding another data point.

I have a number of these in my house, including one under my desk right now.

Just checked and its working as expected.

I'm on 2.3.9.196 C8 Pro

Using the "Tuya Zigbee Metering Plug" driver 1.9.3

I'm not great at reading logs, but here they if they help

Hi @iEnam that sounds like the relay is defective, i.e. its contacts welded together. That can happen when the "inrush current" drawn by the connected appliance at switch-on is too high for too long, or when an "inductive load" is switched off causing a voltage peak. Repeated such occurrences can weld the contacts together. Shouldn't happen normally but if your appliance is old and draws a lot of current...
Best contact our service dept. for a replacement.

Thanks for your reply.
Not sure if the device is defective as I have experienced similar issue in the past with other plugs, but as you explain the issue is most likely due to an overload.

I have reset/re-paired the socket and it is functioning as expected again!

I have experienced a similar issue with this extension setup using a Tasmota plug socket previously as well.

I am using the below 5 gang extension socket box to power a laptop, monitor and mobile phone and Bluetooth speakers.

5 Gang extension socket

(Hulker 3M Extension Lead with USB, Cable Management Box 5 Gang Plug Extension Socket with Switch, 5 Way Power Strip Cable Tidy Box, Desk Cords Organizer for Kitchen, Dorm, Office, Home: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools)

As it is working again and I have experienced similar issue with another socket in the past, is there something the manufacturer can do to improve the overload issue?
Note that all the sockets that stopped responding to off function in the past are all still working!
Thanks again.

Good that it's working again. Not sure what happened then and don't know about that 5 gang extension socket. It's not an overload; the plug would switch OFF then.
We've had no other notifications that a plug was permanently on but started functioning again after a factory reset... Did a simple unplug / replug not solve the issue? Did you also try to unplug the SP 242, plug it into a wall socket without extension socket in between, and then try the button?

Unfortunately, a simple unplug/re-plug did not solve the issue.
I've tried it with other devices and without an extension socket in between yesterday - the socket was still permanently on.

I did a simple reset today by holding the power button for 10 seconds and it started working again straight away.
(EDIT: was testing with the dehumidifier again today with the SP242 plugged into one of the gang of a normal extension cable with 5 gangs. Note with my original setup, I had the SP242 powering the whole of the 5 gang box extension socket to monitor all load on the extension).

Worst thing is these extension sockets must be cursed as I had it happen to me a few times with other sockets in the past, including AJAX and Tasmota sockets.

I am using the same hub and driver.
This issue is probably more specific to my environment/setup, plug working again after a reset.

I wonder if there's a market for a plug which has the "hardening" (beefier contacts, fast fuse, or breaker) to thwart the melt-down. Folk might pay a bit more for a plug for which could be safely used on equipment that "pushes the threshold" of your standard plug. I'm talking something slightly above the 15amp norm but not all the way up to a 30amp rating.

Or is it the case that that inrush is just really hard to accommodate/deal with?

Of course a tripped breaker or burned fuse would be a hassle if this surge was an every day situation.

Hi @PunchCardPgmr since iEnam's plug is working again after a factory reset, it's not the relay contacts that welded together. The SP 24x plugs all three have the same relay rated for 250V and 16A continuous current, and it's "TV-8 rated" which means it can withstand inrush currents up to 128A and 10000 cycles of making and breaking its rated loads (voltage and current), without the contacts eroding enough to weld together. You won't easily find a smart plug with a better relay
