I installed a new Innovelli LZW30-SN On/Off switch Red series. I ran the zWave inclusion and the hub found it and set it up. Going to the device I can turn /off the light I can make it flash from within the decive page. The problem is that when I make a button with the device and a switch template if will not activate the switch. What have I missed? The last one I installed was better than a year ago.
I feel like I'm missing something with the last thing that you're asking about ("a button with the device"), but can I assume you're talking about a tile on Hubitat Dashboard? If so, can I also assume you're trying to use this to turn the switch on/off?
If that is all correct, then you are right that it should work: choose the Inovell switch as the device, choose "Switch" as the template, then add the device to your Dashboard, and tapping/clicking that Dashboard tile should do the same as sending an "On" or "Off" command to the device. If that's not working, make sure that you chose the "parent" device for the Inovelli (in case you're using the Inovelli driver that also creates child devices for other purposes; Hubitat's built-in driver won't).
Also, make sure that the device accurately reports states back to Hubitat. On the device page (from the "Devices" list, then clicking/tapping into the Inovelli switch), you should see attributes under "Current States" update as you turn the device on/off and whatnot. If that doesn't work, it could by why Dashboard is having problems, as it likely reads the current device state (on/off) to determine what command (on or off) to send. That's a more difficult problem to troubleshoot, but if you don't have anything using the device in an automation using it yet, excluding and re-pairing it might help.
You are correct I am trying to setup a button to turn the device on/off on a dashboard. In going to the device itself I can operate the commands and it will work but the current state does not change. I will exclude and factory reset the switch tomorrow when I am more wide awake, hopefuly that will fix it
Got it working. I had to exclude it, factory reset, go to Inovelli and get the correct driver, install it and then include it. Now it works just fine. Whew
Glad you got it figured out! Hubitat's built-in driver should work without the need for a custom driver like Inovelli's, but there are some features/options it doesn't provide access to that a custom driver will (like all five taps in each direction for the Red Series devices), so lots of people use those instead of the built-in ones. The other issue is definitely weird, but maybe something got messed up during pairing (possibly security, which seems to be a bit trickier than non-secure pairing) that a reset and re-pair helped with.
Yeah it has alot more features than I will ever use so far, but hey they were a present :)) Thanks
On second thought there was a feature on the HE driver that I liked but do not see on the Inovelli driver and that was flash. I was thinking on maybe using that for an emergency notification, since this was going to control my front door light. I would like to setup a button that would flash several switches around the house. Will RM do that? I briefly looked but didn't see anything I could use
