In-wall light dimmer switch with Flash function

Looking for suggestions on a Dimmer wall switch that supports the flash functions. I know I can set-up a secondary toggle rule on a normal switch, but I'm looking for something that just works with this functions. I would prefer Z-Wave. Right now I have TP Link and Zooz wall switches that work well on my system but seem to ignore the flash commands.

Hmm .. I wasn't aware that there was a switch out there that supported it natively. For what would you use this for? I'm curious. Definitely watching this post.

I believe my old GE/Jasco Z-wave switches supported FLASH. However, I am not sure about the GE\Jasco Dimmer. I have replaced all of these with Lutron Caseta, so I can no longer run a test.

I just tried executing the FLASH command on a Caseta Dimmer and a Switch. Neither appear to support FLASH based on my very limited testing.

I use a couple of lights flashing to remind me it’s time to cook the dogs’ meals.
It goes off 15 mins before the house announces that it’s time to feed them.
The dogs don’t react to the lights but go crazy when they hear ‘it’s time for dinner’

A while ago I created an app that would flash any light whether it had the native facility or not.
It will be back along with all my other apps soon (ish)

I can confirm that the GE/Jasco Z-wave Plus dimmers do in fact support Flash.

Could you give me some details on how you created that App Andy?

I would like to flash the bedroom light as part of a silent alarm for certain levels of intrusion where I don't want to wake-up the whole house.

I see Flash on the device page for my Lutron Dimmers and Switches. I've never tried it.
My two remaining old GE Z-Wave wall switches also show Flash on the device page.

See my post earlier... I tried the FLASH command on both a Caseta Dimmer and Switch, neither responded. I wonder if the RadioRA2 devices support FLASH?

Interesting. I will have to give it a shot . . .
Thanks!

I looked into this months ago and I was told Lutron doesn’t support this feature.

If you knew me you probably wouldn’t ask that question

I no longer release open source code.

Basically, it records the existing state of each light
Once triggered, the app flashes the lights a configurable number of times with a configurable delay between flashes then returns them to the previous state.

I will release it in the next couple of weeks along with many of my other apps & drivers

Are you reviving your apps to the public again?

Mike, it will be a free members only site.
That way I get to choose who gets my code, and all my apps will be released under the restrictive license that I have previously introduced.
The apps/drivers will be on the website only, no github but yes, they will be back hopefully in the not too distant future.
@Royski graciously does most of the work on my website for me and he is on holiday atm.

The membership part is almost completed.. we just need to sort and update the individual info pages with some new screenshots and limited time, secure, relative download links.
I also need to apply the new license to all the code and I have quite a few updates.
There will also be some new apps & drivers.

So I'm not sure why you put all of that information out there on how you figured this out just to say you aren't going to help. I sort of thought that was what this community was about. Sharing solutions.

Cobra has a bit of a back story with people
stealing his code and what not.

You may be able to create a rule to flash a light with a repeat option.

I would have to fiddle with a rule but basically turn on a light and turn off 1 second later and put it through a repeat.

Currently there are 1484 hubs with my apps on.
With 3198 copies of my various app running this week...
135 people are using my flasher app

I never share anything

Hmmm... your apps track metrics for you?

My apps all ‘phone home’ to check for updates on a weekly basis.
I have never hidden this, on the contrary, I have always told people that this is done.
I have a script which works on my apache server which counts unique IP addresses.
It does not retain them and I have no idea what hub goes to what ip address, it’s just that I have a record of how many apps/drivers are in use each week.
That way I know not to spend my coding time on apps that only 3 people use compared to something like SuperTile which has 400+ users.

Although I’ve just checked.. 17 is the lowest number of users for an app
