I really don't like ST anymore, it has become really slow, but I need something that is wife-proof.
As I understand HE is that:
There is no iOS app, just a "smarttiles" linked webpage? Please correct me if I am wrong. I really need a nice, simply app.
Things like Yale door locks and Halo smoke detectors are not supported?
Basically, Id have to keep ST running and HE at the same time to cover all devices that are already supported by ST? I may to to wait until everything is supported.
Please, please, please someone sell me on this system as I hate ST.
Do not just move here and think everything will work and be simple. It isn't. And in many ways is more complex to setup than ST is.
What it is:
Local and fast.....(if you don't load it down with lots of code)
personally I don't think the ST/HE combo is bad. Migrate your Zwave/Zigbee devices to HE use "Other Hub" to replicate the devices back to ST. You can keep your ST app and devices that ONLY work there. Let your other devices and routines run local and fast. The integrations work. Turn off your ST zwave radio once you're done moving the zwave devices. This way...you can just slowly wait until HE evolves (if it ever does) and can either migrate completely off ST.
I second @jrfarrar .I am 95% migrated from ST, but there's a few integrations that I can't move over yet. It's not a big deal to leave ST up for the cloud integrations that haven't been developed yet for HE IMO.
You are correct, there is no app for Hubitat. Keep in mind though that Hubitat is all about Home Automation, not Home Control via an app. If you setup Hubitat right (using rules, modes, etc) you shouldn't need an app.
Between rules, modes, button controllers and voice control (via Amazon Echo and/or Siri) I haven't needed an app at all.
You can have the best of both world with sharptools.io dashboard as well. I have 95% HE and 5% ST. After using HE since Feb? I don't miss the App as much because of sharptools.io and the HE dashboard.
Reset device (this leaves the device listed in ST, but resets the physical device so it can be paired to a different hub)
Pair device to HE
Add device to Other Hub app (which replicated a virtual device to ST)
Replace physical device with virtual device in all ST smartapps and automations
Force delete physical device from ST
Later on, re-created automations from ST on HE hub, then removed ST smartapps
Regarding an app, the dashboard does a nice job of looking pretty much like an app without actually being one. It works just fine for controlling devices remotely. The only thing I miss about the ST app so far is being able to see device history, but that is supposed to be a part of the upcoming HE app.
Not sure where you got this information but this is not the case. Device Event history will remain in the web interface and will not be in the mobile app.
Mobile app will be push notifications, geofence / presence and dashboard access at launch.
Yes, miscommunication. Device history is still planned as an option for Dashboard tiles, but will not be a specific feature of the mobile app inclusive. It will be available in Dashboards when it is released. Dashboards will be available in the mobile app...
I depend on my iOS Home app (via Homebridge running on a cheap Raspberry Pi). Once all setup it is cake to use, share, configure etc. for the me and my Wife. You also get it integrated with Siri. I use it daily to check/control lights, arm/disarm the alarm, presence tracking etc. Works so well that I will probably continue to use it as my primary control app even when a dedicated Hubitat app is released.
While there will be an app that will provide access to Dashboards in the future, you'll still have to create the Dashboards. Do that now (or whenever you get Hubitat), then bookmark a link to that Dashboard on the iOS home screen. Boom: something that behaves like a mobile app for 99% of users who just want remote control. (And hey, you can move things around and only show select devices--sound like a familiar wishlist?)
