I have paired my lock, but cannot control it. It also always shows unknown status.
Did it fully pair? If zwave, under Device Details do you have this text: "zwaveSecurePairing Complete: true"?
If not, exclude it and try again.
Note that the hub has to be VERY close to the lock to pair and get the secure key transfer. 1-2 ft max. I moved 3 kwikset locks from ST to HE this weekend, and all of them failed at 3 ft, but worked at 2 ft...

It is Z wave. I did get very close, but I didnt see the secure pairing complete. BTW, thanks for the quick reply.
0X98 in the inClusters means it is securely paired, but this doesn't look right. For example, my Yale YRD256 has 6 values for InClusters instead of the three that your lock is showing.
This is something similar to what you should see.
- deviceType: 32770
- zwaveSecurePairingComplete: true
- inClusters: 0x5E,0x72,0x98,0x5A,0x73,0x86
- deviceId: 1536
- manufacturer: 297
Obviously the values will be different, but it does not look like your lock joined correctly. I would suggest you exclude as @JasonJoelOld is suggesting, then I would also factory reset the lock, and then join again with it very close to the hub.
Also make sure you have fresh batteries in the lock. Some have noted their locks have issues joining the Z-Wave network correctly if the batteries are below 60%
YEs my kwikset locks had to display the zwaveSecurePairingComplete: true to work.
Of note, mine would not pair securely next tot he lock. They ended up pairing securely when the hub was close but not next to.
Here is an example from a Kwikset 916. If you don't have the Secure Pairing Complete, then the secure pairing did NOT finish completely (likely key exchange failed), regardless of the 0x98 cluster status.
After pairing did you click the ‘configure’ button?
This is usually required to send the correct config to a z-wave device.
Andy
I did click config but it didnt seem to do anything. I will keep trying from varying distances. Is the correct way to exclude batteries out hold program button batteries back in and then short press the program button again? Thank you for all of the responses.
Have a separate browser window open to your log page when clicking ‘configure’ you should see some activity (it might take a minute or so)
Andy
To include/exclude all of the models I have, you only push the "A" button, not the program button (that is for code programming).
Batteries out/in + program button usually does the factory reset. And that will NOT include/exclude from a hub.
Anything special to pair it. I have no instructions. Do I hold down the button or just press it?
Config does nothing with the log up on separate window. Also not getting zwavesecurepairing complete
Do you know the model? I am pretty sure all of the Kwikset manuals are available online.
In any case, you just press and release "A" to do include/exclude on all of the models I'm familiar with.
I have the Kiwikset 914 conversion kit working fine and also have the zwaveSecurePairingComplete: true.
When you pair it, does it automatically join as "Generic Z-Wave Lock" or "Device" and you then change it?
If "Device" then you may have to temporarily set the hub to allow secure inclusion for all devices in the Z-Wave settings.
Good Morning. I have a kwikset 888 and when paired it would not update status. I followed these directions to exclude, move the hub closer then repair...worked. I wanted to ask another question on locks though if i may. I'm transitioning from IRIS. One of the features i really liked with IRIS was the ability to set a schedule for my locks to automatically lock at a certain time. Would i do that through rules? Or something like IFTTT linked to Hubitat to trigger on time.
For me. I have the lock module close to the hub. I go into Z-wave setting and click on secure join = all secure Z-wave. After the lock is paired. Go into the lock detail and be sure under data = zwaveSecureParingComplete = True. Otherwise you won't be able to control or get status from the lock. Put the module back in the lock assembly and do a Z-wave repair.
You can go back into Z-wave setting and set secure join back to garage and lock once you are done.
I used Rule Manager and created a Triggered Rule and called it Auto Lock. Here is what my rule looks like:
It is a simple rule with no other conditions. You can make it certain days of week or check status of a switch or light, etc.
Thanks.
Took a few tries. I moved the hub within a foot and it finally took. I found it easier to do a factory reset on the lock between tries and it eventually worked, I have all three locks set up now and on a set trigger for locking at 9 PM.
Once i got them set up - i was able to use Rule Manager. I used a trigger through - not a triggered rule. Still new to the app so this may be the same thing. thanks
I un-paired about 20 devices today form IRIA and moved them to Hubitat. so far the only one im afraid to move is the sprinkler.....thats next week. 10 or 12 zone orbit.
