I moved my hub. Old Zigbee devices no longer responsive. Newly added Zigbee devices work

In relation to my Zigbee devices, I recently moved my HE C-8 Pro 30 ft. from where it was--to a much more central location in the house. This is when things started behaving badly. I also added some new devices (Plug (ID59) 249F; Night Light (ID60) 4AD2; Motion Sensor (ID58) EE41. These all work.

All the old devices no longer work:

  • Plug (ID41) DE3C
  • Motion sensor (ID44) A240
  • Door sensor (ID42) AE6E

All devices are by 3rd Reality.

I am a Hubitat and Zigbee Newb, BTW. Thanks in advance for the help!

By now, I have mashed all the buttons in Hubitat, and nothing seems to work. I've:

  • Reset the HE hub - Via GUI and hardware
  • Changed Channel from 20 to 25
  • Changed power from 8 to 12
  • Rebuilt network (multiple times this has been pressed)
  • (As an aside, I also changed the device names on all these devices. e.g. - "Plug - 11 - Zigbee - 3rd Reality" - Just a data point here. I can't imagine this makes any difference)

Here is a screenshot of my devices:

Same list under Zigbee Details - The "Msgs" for each non-working device = 0:

Here is my getChildAndRouteInfo:

[Night Light, 4AD2], LQI:164, age:5, inCost:1, outCost:1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Route Table Entry

No routes

Per AI, this was interpreted as:

The LQI values (177 and 164) indicate good signal strength for both devices, as they are relatively high (LQI ranges from 0 to 255, with higher values indicating better quality). The age values show how many seconds ago the last message was received from each device. The inCost and outCost represent the cost of sending messages to and from these devices, respectively.

The route table is empty, showing "No routes." This suggests that your network is relatively simple and doesn't require complex routing. All devices can likely communicate directly with the coordinator or through a single hop.

In summary, your Zigbee network consists of at least three devices: a motion sensor in the pantry (which is a sleepy end device), an air purifier, and a night light. The network seems to have good connectivity, as indicated by the LQI values, and a simple structure that doesn't require routing tables.

Can you clarify exactly what you did here?

  1. Hardare: There is a small button accessible on the bottom of the hub - that is a Hub network reset. Unless you've modified the hub's network settings it won't have any effect.
  2. GUI: Do you mean a Soft Reset, or other action from the Hub Diagnostic tool at [hubIPAddress]:8081? Or ?

This generally can be a good change on a C8/C8-Pro, won't hurt.

May want to put this back at 8 at some point, but leave it as-is for now.

This won't hurt anything.

Won't hurt anything.

So you can't control the plug from it's page in the Devices tab, can't turn it on/off, correct? And the motion and contact sensor don't report status changes, right?

I'd do the following:

  1. Turn off the hub, wait for red LED on hub, pull power for 30s, restore power and let the hub boot up. (Full shut-down/pulling power clear the radio, which a plain reboot won't do.)
  2. Check status of the original devices to see if they are reporting/working.
  3. If not, reset/re-join those three devices to your hub - they will slot right back into their existing device names, and if you have them in automations they will keep working in those automations

Report back w/answers to questions and let us know after doing above actions how things look.

  1. Yes. Small button reset was performed.
  2. I mean "Reboot" under "System Settings."

I unplugged and re-plugged the hub, but that didn't have any immediate effects.

This seemed to have worked, but I did get some Power Configuration failures.

Just to be sure, you did wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in again, correct?

What driver are you using for that device?

Pretty darn sure. I can do this again.

I am not sure if this is the info you are after? Firmware? Software Build?

  • endpointId: 01
  • application: 33
  • firmwareMT: 1233-D3A1-00000033
  • manufacturer: Third Reality, Inc
  • model: 3RMS16BZ
  • softwareBuild: 00000033

This is how it was installed:

Nothing in these menus seem to be relevant to the sensor:

Driver, known as "Type" on the device's details page in the device info section...looks something like this:

I unplugged for a few minutes, and no changes.

As for drivers:

I have a good outlet and a good motion sensor up an running on these drivers, which are the same drivers I am using for the bad outlet and motion sensor.

I thought you were saying above that the three devices that weren't responding worked after reset/rejoin - below:

So in terms of "bad" devices you're referring to the power config log messages, but the devices do respond to control from their Device pages, correct?

Can you post a screen shot of one of the devices that is not showing the power config log messages, and of one of the devices that is showing that message? The top section of the device page, and the Prefernces section below it.

Sorry that I wasn't clear, I had only re-joined one of the devices at that point, so the two other were still misbehaving.

Between now and then, I have:

  • Rejoined all the misbehaving devices
  • Updated the firmware on all Zigbee devices
  • Added a new plug ("server room")
  • Attempted three times to update HE from 2.3.9.180 to 2.3.9.201 -- This always fails:

This is where we are this morning:

Below are all the Zigbee devices I have now, and they seem to all be interactive with the hub, as there are messages from this morning for each device. However, the getChildAndRouteInfo page still does not list two, what I believe should be, child devices: The "Door Sensor - Hall Closet" (8D53) and "Motion Sensor - David Office" (AA19).

I am not sure what I am troubleshooting at this point, as all devices seem to be functioning properly. It's just that the getChildAndRouteInfo seems to not describe what's actually detected under the "Zigbee Details" screen.

I know, I know...the device graph should not be trusted! However, for one brief second, it showed this:
image

Though, 99% of the time, it shows this, with the "Door Sensor - Hall Closet" (8D53) and "Motion Sensor - David Office" (AA19) missing, which is in agreement with getChildAndRouteInfo. One thing of note. The "Door Sensor - Hall Closet, 8D53" and "Hall Closet Plug, 101E" are like 4-5 feet from each other, with the HE hub being 15-20ft away, so it isn't obvious to me why the closet door sensor shouldn't route with the closet plug:

I think you're done. Seriously, bold is what you were waiting for.

There are frequently gaps in what's reported depending on what tool/endpoint you're looking at. As long as things are working I would not worry about what's getting reported.

How is the update failing...if you're getting a very slow download that times out, you should try the following: Change below setting from Auto to Fixed 100, or Fixed 100 to Auto. Doing that will shake loose the negotiation between the hub and your router and should allow the update to download and complete. Known issue that crops up now and again. Changing from the current speed setting, whichever it is, to the other, usually sorts it.

Oh, and forgot to mention...Don't move your freaking hub any more!!

Worked like a charm, thank you! I don't think I would have every landed there on my own!

No joke! I initially just plugged it in close to my computer, on the floor, in a corner of the house. I figured a central location would be better. Had I known...

Thank you so much for all the assistance!

Nope - the only reason I know is someone told me about it, etc. It may happen again, if so just toggle the setting again from whatever it is to the other (Auto vs. Fixed 100.)
