I have no idea how to edit an action in RM. Very frustrated

I'm extremely frustrated with editing an action in RM. I can add actions just fine. But I have no idea how to edit a single action. When I click on a checkbox the action disappears.

When I click on the Actions of a Rule I see four drop downs, if I click on a check mark that action disappears. Without any way of cancelling the deletion.

When I click on Edit nothing happens.

I just managed to delete the lone action on a Rule and now I can't add an action. So I have to delete the rule and create everthing again.

The UI is very complex and it's very difficult to work with. This is extremely frustrating. Especially given that I have 40+ years experience as a software developer and I'm used to figuring things out. This one I just can't figure out.

I'm not sure I understand what you are attempting to do. If you show us your rule, and show us where you are trying to edit it, maybe we can help?

The interface can be a bit odd to use at first. I found that once I got it, it worked for me.

It is possible to either clone or download a rule. You could do this prior to making modifications, and then if something gets deleted, the working rule can be used instead…

The “Delete” drop down will indeed immediately delete your “checked” action - no undo. Alternatively, you could use the “cut” drop down. It will be kept until another one takes its place in the “buffer”.

Odd that the “Edit” button doesn’t work for you. I use it very often and never had issues that I can recall.

Here are the screens I am seeing. Note that I'm severely visually impaired due to an extremely rare retina disease so I have to use my devices in High Contrast Theme or Dark/Night mode.

Are you using JAWS or other screen reader tool? You have that option turned on. If you aren't, then turn that option off, and the pages will make a lot more sense.

That option toggle is at the very top of the Settings page.

Off topic, but in case you have any automation recommendations (my wife has retinal dystrophy)

WOW! That was the answer. The RM screen I'm complaining about is now so much easier to use and understand. Obviously I clicked that checkbox in the distant past. But see the following screen shot to see why I never knew it was checked.

See the check box to the left of "Enable screen reader ..." I can't either. That's because I'm using Windows High Contrast theme and the check box outline and contents stay black. They don't switch to white.

There are other examples I've noticed like this elsewhere in the UI as well as a number of other websites. But I'm usually able to figure things out. This time clearly I hadn't.

I too am losing my central and peripheral vision although the retina specialists called it an RP variant. I still have a decent amount of peripheral vision so I don't expect to totally lose that. You can see my retina photos at Tony Toews - retina photos

My daughter has cone/rod RP and is almost blind. She works for the Bureau of Reclamation as an accountant, and uses JAWS as her daily means to do her work (I can't imagine!). This is what got us started paying attention to visual impairment issues with the UI. We can fix that setting, so that the words actually change, not just the on/off slider. It's not a checkbox. If your browser settings are hiding these sliders, a great portion of the UI would be invisible to you.
