I can't get my C8 Pro to respond now after trying to add the GE plug to the device

GE Enbrighten Z-wave Plus Outdoor Plug 14284 Model ZW4201 won't add to Hubitat

Purchased Dec.6,2024
I'm trying to add it to a C8 PRO just bougt. I've tried to add it by brand...nothing listed fir it
I hen reset the device and tried adding it as a generic Z-wave device — place inches from the hub. Multiple attempts. Never gets found.

What should I do?
I've factory reset it multiple times

That doesn't mean anything, they added some guides for the most common type devices. Using the generic Add Z-wave procedure is just fine, in fact most advanced users just use those buttons anyway.

You should try a Z-wave exclude first to see if the device will exclude. This is important if your device was ever paired to a different hub. Also, if the device won't exclude, it won't include.

You also should see if there are any errors in the Logs tab. That may tell what is going on.

Is this the first Z-wave device you have tried to pair?
What hub firmware version are you on?
What does your Z-wave details page show?

How is hub powered?

Is this your first zwave device?

The hub is powered by the USB connection and is hooked up via ethernet—currently DHCP. It is a C8 Pro running Platform version 2.3.9.201
This is the 1st Z-wave device I've tried to add; it was previously hooked up to a Vera Plus hub. I tried factory resetting it before attmpting to add it.

It will not exclude either.
The following is creenshot of my devices

The only devices listed are ecobee devices which came in from the Amazon skill app and my phone with the mobile app on it .

I can't get my Amazon smart switches working in Hubitat either, From my reading, I'm not sure if I can without reflashing their firmware.

I will provide the logs & other info requested in a reply (once I figure out how to get them). I'm totally new to the Hubitat world... I was thinking of gifting the hub as a XMas present ; however I'm not sure now given the difficulties I've had with it.

Although this is my first zwave device being added to Hubitat, I am a 5 yr. user Of Vera Plus with 5 Z-wave devices; 6 wifi devices (mostly Amazon smart plugs) and an Ecobee thermostat. All of these went in automatically through the Vera app.

here are the logs you requested:

Connnected to what? The supplied power
Block or something else?

Shut down the hub and unplug for 30 seconds and then plug back in.

Try excluding again, from within 10ft of the hub if possible.

the hub is powered by the supplied power block.

I shut down the hub and unplug for 30 seconds and then plugged it back in, as you suggested. But before trying toexclude again,I
tried first to set a static IP on the hub. Folllowimg instructions, I rebooted the hub. Now although the LED is solid green, my hub ia not discoverable andwon't respond. it wants ti be setup again.

If it's not broke, don't fix it
I know. I'll try agin tomorrow

You need to do a network reset to clear the static ip settings Network Setup | Hubitat Documentation

It would be better if you just set a reserved ip on the router side in the dhcp settings.

I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. I use the pin in the back to reset the hub. The LED blinks blue for about 5 seconds then turns green.. The hub doesn't get discovered until I do an advanced search on the MAC address. It returns a "found by MAC address" almost instantly.

However, clicking on the "Connect to Hub"button returns a network error:

if i discoonect the ethernet cable, I see no WiFi. his is similar to what I initially experienced in my initial setup. Difference no flashing red & green LED. So i do the same thing and do a reboot with no Ethernet.

The 1st time I do this, I see a WiFi connection from the hub,,, however, I stlll cannot access the hub after following the instructions and connecting to the Wifi connection on the hub.

SO I reboot it again with WIFI only.. this time it results in flashing red & green LED.
Finally I reboot it with internet. This time it takes a few minutesfor the light to turn green. Still can't connect to the hub.
FInally I reboot it again with WiFi only... this time I get a network WiFi from the hub... I connect to it and then reconnect t9 my ISP WiFi.

Nothing kicks of to setup the hub.

I'm out of ideas of what to do.

It shouldn't be this difficult.

I will leave it run overnight and reboot the cmputer amd hub in the morning to see it that solves anytthing.

Do the network reset and leave it connected via ethernet.

What is the IP of the PC you are trying to connect to the hub from? Open a command prompt (search for cmd and open), and run ipconfig. You are looking for an IPv4 Address that starts with 192.168, it should be 192.168.0.X. If it is anything other than .0 subnet then you must have multiple subnets or DHCP servers on your LAN.

This error leads me to believe you have other networking problems on your LAN, that is not a normal error message.

Did you try opening a browser window and just browsing to http://192.168.0.50 (the IP shown for the hub)?

You could also try doing this from your phone connected to the Wifi (hub still on ethernet) and see if you have better luck there. There could be some configuration issue on your PC preventing it from reaching the hub,

Blockquote I wil leave it connectedto the ethernet.
My Ethernet is 192.168.0.71 WiFI is 192.168.0.40

Yes, I have done that. I've also used a phone connected to my router
All with the same results!

I'm attaching a copy of the ipconfig /all command output

On the same PC? That alone might be causing an issue, if you are on ethernet from a PC then turn off the Wifi.

You are connected a VPN, disconnect from the VPN to access local LAN traffic.

I've disabled WiFi on my computer, disabled the VPN and I get the same results.

Tried hard reboots soft reboots ( http://192.168.0.50:8081/ ) also with same results. I can't run the diagnostic tools.
I've made the dedicated P address through the router only as well

Maybe this topic should be relabeled as I can't get my C8 Pro to respond now after trying to add the GE plug to the device,

Sorry, can we back up a bit?

So you added this GE plug, and the hub never responded again? That isn't what I was reading in the sequence above, but maybe I missed something. I am not sure how that would even be possible that the plug would make the hub unresponsive.

I think you have a basic networking issue, or a defective hub. To me it isn't clear yet what is going on, where the issue is happening from the information given.

A full reset (if you really did that) would wipe out everything you had, and reset the hub back to the way you received it. There would be no settings, devices, or anything else left or available to restore once you do that. It may have given the hub a new IP address upon this full reset.

Please clarify for those trying to help what is going on exactly.

  • You [can] [can not] access the diagnostic menu at 8081.
  • You [can] [can not] access the main hub UI by using the IP address.
  • You [can] [can not] do a soft reset and see the startup menu, or the hub booting.

Probably a few more questions as people try to help, but start there please.

This sounds like the correct procedure. You held it down for 7 seconds then let go correct?

Green LED should mean it is connected to the router and has an IP.

Have you ever checked your routers devices list to see if it shows up there? Possibly with a different IP.

You can also run arp -a from a command line and look for the hub MAC is n the results.

Can the topic name be reset?

What is the MAC address on the bottom of the hub? That should match the 34:xx number.

The WiFi MAC will be different, but still start with 34:xx

  • And just for the sake of ruling out things, no other device on your network has an IPV4 of 192.168.0.50?
  • Is every device on your network on 192.168.0.xx ?
  • How is this hub wired up, direct to a single router? Using meshed networking?
  • This isn't on some guest or isolated IOT network or anything fancy like that?

You can edit the title of your own post any time you want. I just edited it for you.

So when it connects via the Wifi and gets the IP of .50 you still cannot connect to the hub?

Have you tried a different ethernet cable and a different known to be working port for the ethernet connection? There is no trick to getting ethernet to work, you just plug it in and it connects, even if you have Wifi also setup it will still work.

Are you getting the "Link" light on the router/switch port when you connect the ethernet?
