Hue motion detector loses contact with Hubitat

I have 2 hue motion detectors hooked up to my Hubitat. They both constantly lose contact with Hubitat. Has anyone else noticed that or have ways to prevent this?

Welcome to Hubitat. Do you have any mains-powered Zigbee devices on your Hubitat Zigbee network? These usually act as Zigbee repeater devices that help to strengthen your Zigbee mesh network. However, many Zigbee bulbs are poor Zigbee repeaters that can cause issues like you're seeing.

So, not enough Zigbee repeater devices can be a problem.
Some Zigbee bulbs can be a problem.
WiFi interference can be a problem, depending on WiFi and Zigbee channels that are chosen.

If the mesh is good, it may be an issue I've encountered. Using a Hue motion sensor for illumination only, occasionally the sensor would stop communicating with the hub, that's 8 feet away.

Solution: an RM to refresh the Hue device.

I have several Hue motion detectors connected to Hubitat and they have never lost connection. I would suspect maybe a zigbee mesh issue. Could you try adding a zigbee repeater between the hub and the motion sensors to see if that takes care of the problem?

Take a look at your "Zigbee Logs", check the last 2 fields for your Hue Motion Sensors.
If they're low try adding one or two Ikea Tradfri Repeaters.

I had this problem with 2 of the 5 Hue outside motion detectors. I updated the 2 problem detectors and I haven’t had a problem since. Hope this helps

P.S. you need a Hue hub to do an update.

Where are zigbee logs?

I will verify they are up to date.

do you have any xiaomi devices? Those caused a problem with my Hue motion sensors

(Substitute IPaddr in the URL, with the actual IP address of your hub).

http://IPaddr/hub/zigbeeLogs

And also useful:

When I check the logs there is nothing there. No logs at all.

I do not have any of those devices

You'll want to open multiple tabs.
One each for the Hue sensors and one for the Zigbee Logs.
Then click "refresh" on the Hue Motion Sensor Device Page.
This should generate entries on the Zigbee Logs Page.

I reconnected the one sensor. Does zigbee channel matter?

If this is still in the location that was giving issues, it looks pretty good.

Yes, lots of factors involved with which channel you want to use.

Can I use a zigbee outlet as a repeater?

My Hue buttons and motion sensors work very well with the SmartThings plugs.

The Iris outlets work good as well for repeaters.
