I really wanted to get Hubspace into Hubitat, so I took a Home Assistant project and reverse-engineered it for Hubitat. I've got it controlling 7 fans with lights. Could use some help testing out the other devices.
Feedback is greatly appreciated!
PS. Shoutout to @djgutheinz (I used your Kasa approach) and Expl0dingBanana & jdeath for their awsome HomeAssistant Projects! Also GitHub Copilot
The take home for me is that one should never invest in this sort of cloud-dependent crap. It might be a wee bit more expensive to stay fully local, but you won't wake up one morning unable to control your devices.
I have a Defiant lock that uses Hubspace I hope I can get working with this. The alternative is to use their Alexa integration and virtual devices.
By the way, I think the odds of Hubspace sticking around are just as good or better than the odds of Hubitat since it’s a wholly owned subsidiary of Home Depot.
I’m very happy so far with my Defiant lock. My prior smart lock was nowhere near as consistent.
Good point... thankfully the investment was small and even if the cloud dies the physical code to lock and unlock will still work. That's the main reason I have it. I enjoy having remote lock control and notifications but I'm not dependent upon it for anything.
On a related note, my new house has a Fluent alarm system that ties to Alarm.com so I will probably end up replacing it with something that works with that system anyway. Alarm.com is also cloud based so I'll be looking for alternatives like a modern decoder or Konnected. Not sure which way I will go yet
