Thinking of trying Hubitat and have used other platforms. That said, all have their pros and cons and was wanting to test drive this before diving in. I understand their is a hardware piece with this and not just a UI, so how can one try it out before buying?

To the best of my knowledge Hubitat has never done "Free Trials"
There are lots of video's on YouTube that people have been posting on the use of Hubitat. That could help you make some decision:
Like pretty much anything on amazon, you have 30 days to request a return. I’m not sure about the return policy if bought directly from hubitat.com, presumably it’s clearly posted in the store section of the site though.
Amazon is known to have a great no-nonsense return policy if you're not happy.
