I have tried and cant figure out how to add this to HPM as a custom repository. Can it be done?
To add a custom repository, you need a "manifest" containing information for the relevant files, and you'd have to host it somewhere that HPM can access. I don't belive that autor uses HPM (so hasn't done so himself), though I suppose someone could--but they'd still have to update that file when the "real" one changes for HPM to know there's a difference, so it may not help much.
What I'd do when you want to update this driver is just go into "Drivers Code" and click the "Import" button. This driver has a line it it that should automatically fill in this URL, so it's still easier than the truly manual method. 
To get updates on new releases, I suppose you could choose "Tracking" (under the bell icon) on the Community thread for the driver, though then you'll also get all community questions posted there too...
Or you can keep using it indefinitely as is if you aren't having problems and don't need new features.
