Hubitat hub won't stay connected to eero router

I have a IP reservation set up at 192.168.4.65 for my HE. After the last update It disconnects from my eero router every couple days. Any one have any ideas?

First thought would be to try a new Ethernet cable. Or switch port. Is it plugged in directly to the Eero?

Assuming the hub is configured to get its IP address with DHCP (which is the default). And the eero and it’s other connected devices are on the same subnet.

I switched the Ethernet cable and port. I set a reservation not sure where to find the subnet.

Home subnets are usually in the 255.255.255.0 range if it is a 192.168.x.x category.

That's what I have on my dhcp

Not sure why it would be related to a hub update but you might try setting auto-reconnect to 30s and see if that helps,

If your Eero gateway and other devices have IP addresses that match those first three #s (called octets in IP networking terms), and you havent’t manually adjusted your subnet settings (which it sounds like you haven’t), then it’s all one subnet.

When these disconnects occur, does the hub still function otherwise? Like do automations run as configured?

I don't have that on my router. But I see it tries to reconnect about every minuet or so. I can't get it to reconnect at all this afternoon. Time to unplug it and head for the pub. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's not on your router - it's on HE under Setup > Network. Best not to try it on your way home from the pub

I did a bit of googling and it seems like eero defaults to a subnet mask of 255.255.252.0, which means it's a /22 subnet. HE only supports a /24 subnet with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. If my information is correct then that could be the source of the issue but I don't know why it would just have shown up. Maybe someone else can verify the default eero config.

Hmm that’s interesting. You might be right, I’m only moderately familiar with Eero from trying to help my mom troubleshoot hers.

But now that you mention it, this may explain an issue I ran into once.

Thanks for looking that up.

Edit: tagging @danabw.

If I understood correctly I would think this would come up more often though. There have to be quite a few folks using eero and HE.

Finding "real" documentation on eero is not simple.

My mom also has a Mac. So being the family tech support guy is kind of a pain. Both her PC and her router are the kind that are supposed to “just work.” But then when they don’t, troubleshooting becomes a huge PITA.

I'm a Mac guy from way back. I will only use Windows as a virtual machine running on my mac (or VDI). But on the network side... Unifi.

I have found contradictory info on the eero and its default subnet so... who knows.

I haven't had or used an Eero in years so unfortunately don't have really much information to add here.

Well nm then, thought I could recall you posting about Eero before but maybe it was indeed a ways back. Thanks for nothing .

According to my wife, it's what I do best.

I use Eero (just one Pro 6 unit, so no mesh [small house]), and I've never had a problem with any of the Eero units I've had over the years.

I've always used the Reservation feature in the Eero app to reserve the IPs for all of our normally connected devices, including Hubitat.

@hydro311 does it create a /24 network (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) or something else?

Also have an Eero Pro 6 with mesh. If I’m not mistaken, you can configure the subnet to whatever you want from the network settings screen:

Thanks. If those are more or less the defaults I think what I read was wrong and OP is likely using a /24 network. On to other possibilities!
