Hub variable in RM 5: Delete a ghost variable despite the warning "... deleting it will damage the apps ..."?

I had used a hub variable in two rule apps. Now this variable isn't used anymore in any rules (deleted or exchanged by another variable). The variable is not in triggers, actions or "manage conditions" of any rule apps.

I want to delete the variable to keep the overview. But in the maintenance table of the hub variables, I furthermore get the hint that this hub variable is used by the two rules.

Should I delete the variable despite the warning "... used in these apps... deleting it will damage the apps..."?

I would recommend making and downloading a backup of the hub, deleting it and then ensuring that all your rules are okay. If they are, you are good to go. Otherwise, you can restore the backup if necessary to fix the issue.
