I seriously need help with my hub having issues everyday now. I have had the hub for close to 1+ year, and everything is working fine. Until during recent weeks, i have noticed that my lights dont turn on automatically. Then i try to access hubitat from my laptop , and its not accessible. Only left with shutdown option(hard shutdown). I have no idea whats causing this problem.
If any logs are required, plz let m know, i really want the hub to be stable. I have the latest firmware 2.2.5.131 running. This shutdown thing is becoming a routine for me. Please help
Have you had a power outage that wasn't covered by a UPS? This could cause an issue. Do you have any backups on your laptop? If so do you have on the is older than your problem?
I personally download a backup to my computer before and after I make any changes.
I'm still learning about how to use the Hub. I set it up about a year ago, and did some research on checking the logs etc at that time. Its been a while , and i need to brush up my knowledge on how to check the logs etc. I will do that today. But for the other 2 questions, no i have not added any new devices recently. Last device i added was close to more than 6 months back. No rules were created. However i did change settings on some existing rules for my light switches. instead of using a static time to turn on the light switches, i just put sunrise & sunset. But sensing this might have been the problem, i switch it back to my older static time settings . Still having the hub going offline every day. Nothing but a hard shutdown is my option now. i'm also beginning to think that this problem happens more closer to after 5pm. Don't know when exactly though. I say this because, i started accessing the hubitat app on my mobile randomly to check if the hub is online. I mean i have never seen the hub non responsive during the mornings or afternoons. More close to sunset or after 5.30 or 6pm & above is when i have this problem happening. when it happens, not able to open hubitat dashboard on phone app, or web portal or none of the devices attached to the hub works. Only shutdown brings it back to life.
Not sure about this, but I understand that the best way to restore a backup to fix a corrupted database is to download it before doing the restore, and restoring it from the downloaded file.
First thing to do is check the logs. Go to the main menu on the left and select logs. Then select "Past" and scroll through to see if you have errors which might point to a particular device. You can also click on "App" and "Device" to see if anything is taking too long to respond or gobbling up processor power.
If you can't work out a fix from there, suggest to try a soft reset. Remember to download a backup first ok! Read a bit around those subjects on the forum to make sure you do it right and don't lose your setup and any automations you've built.
Thank you everyone who tried to help me on this problem. I tried removing about close to 4 of my devices( which were showing as warnings or errors due to 1 reason or the other), since they were not that important to me , so as to control from hubitat. I could use their individual apps to control them, like for eg, ecobee thermostat. Even after removing some of them I was not able to resolve this no response from hub problem. I had to force shutdown the hubitat hub every time. Finally I did a factory reset of the box, as I honestly did not know what else to do from the logs. I mean none of the other devices were showing any errors or warnings. Or maybe it's my unawareness of properly looking at the logs. Anyways, after reset I added my devices back 1 after the other. Only added what I needed as I did not want too many devices added and end up with problems again. I did not restore any backups even though I had them. It was a fresh start. And 2 days down, all seems to work fine. It's on latest update as of now. I still had a question on the hub time. When I check the hub details options, it does show my current mountain time..no issues there. But when I go into hub diagnostic tool and then click on set hub time and date option, it shows the hub time in GMT, which is close to 6 hours ahead of my time. Is this normal. I mean on hub settings, it's right time in MDT, while in hub diagnostic tool it shows a different time zone and time. I tried refreshing and clicking on update options. But it still remains GMT time.zone .No idea why that is. Maybe some one can enlighten me. Also was wondering if there is a way to make my motion sensors stop sensing motion during the day. I mean my lighting rules state to activate lights after sunset. Even though the lights don't turn on during the day, I noticed that the motion sensor still senses motion during the day. I just wanted to know if there is a setting on the sensor I can setup, to turn off motion sensing during the day so that it can save battery. The battery savings will be significant, if it is only active during night time. Any setting like that? Or do I just have to live with it as it is?
Once again, thank you for all the help. Appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
I believe that’s the way the Diagnostic Tool works; it’s the same for me. It is completely separate and standalone from the platform software so that failure of the platform doesn’t brick everything, and so that you can get the platform going again.
No way that I'm aware of. These sensors are sensing all the time. You just have to deal with that in your rules, for example using modes for day, evening etc and then exiting your motion lighting rule during the day mode at the top of your motion lighting rule.
A 1 amp power supply is recommended, so you should be good with your 2 amp supply now. Suggest also to make sure the hub is not overheating. I have mine upside down to allow the air to circulate more. You can run the hub information app to check the temperature of your hub.
I had a lot of issues with my hub a year or so back. I did all the things you mention above and more. Posted about it (you would be able to find it in my posts from a while ago if interested). Eventually it started behaving and has been mostly fine ever since. Annoyingly I wasn't able to pin down exactly what resulted in the fix. I changed the power supply, used a UPS, changed the network cable, turned the hub upside down, many soft resets, selectively turned custom apps off, added several repeaters to my mesh, and moved all my lights onto my Hue hub, and moved my motion lighting rules onto Node-RED. Another thing I stopped doing was the daily reboot. I believe it's possible that was in itself causing issues. Eventually it settled down and has been fine now for months (fingers crossed lol). I hope you get your issues resolved somehow!
