Hub Mesh usage for non zwave/zigbee devices

HI all,
Just want to confirm...
I currently have two hubs setup, a C8 hub which has all my zwave and zigbee devices, so pretty much only used for radio and a C7 hub which runs integrations, automations, apps, dashboards, etc. All zigbee and zwave devices are hub mesh enabled and are pulled into the C7 from C8. The question i have is there any reason, i maybe missing, for other devices i have that are coming in, in form of integrations (lutron, hue, wink relays) and are setup on C7 to have hub mesh enabled, since there really isnt any reason for C8, at least as far as i can see, to see them? Thanks.

I do the same thing. One C7 hub runs all rules and host my WIFI devices and the C8 is for all my Z-wave and Zigbee. Well mostly, I still have another C7 that host a few Iris V1 devices that won't run on the C8. I have to keep it until I can replace them.

No reason I can think of to mesh a device to a hub that is not doing anything with it.

5 hubs here, so keeping the number of devices interacting on the Hub Mesh to a minimum is an ongoing concern.

  • 0 = Lutron
  • 1 = Zigbee
  • 2 = Z-Wave
  • 3 = presence
  • 4 = Sonos (and development)

Each rules is "based" on the Hub where most of the devices the rule interacts with are located. For example, an all-Zigbee rule would be on Hub 1, while a rule controlling multiple Lutron devices with a Z-Wave input would be on Hub 0, with only the Z-Wave input device (on Hub 2) needing to be Hub Mesh-ed.

As @terminal3 noted, there's no reason for a device that's doesn't need to be on Hub Mesh to be clogging up the LAN, and no Hub that doesn't need to "see" a particular device to be monitoring it.
