Hub issues again - problem resolved WiFi interference

Hub c8 on .171

Ok so my hub started acting very weird when I first updated .172 then a day or two later I updated .173 last night I thought I did a downgrade back to .172 however as my hub started acting up again today I looked in the settings and I was actually still on .173 so as I thought, I did a downgrade a few days ago it actually never went through and I was still on .173 , so today a few minutes ago I did a downgrade to .171 however I’m still having issues.

The issues I’m having is motion sensors will detect motion, I know this cause I’ll see the LED light up on the motion sensor but I will not see anything in the logs. Before I started messing with it and upgrading, I had no issues at all . It seems that a reboot will fix the issue for a while, but then the issue will come back. Any help would be appreciated. I’m not sure what’s going on here.

Update:

The issue has been resolved , issue wasn’t from Hubitat updates. The issue was from 2.4ghz WiFi interference with zigbee network. My router must of auto switched to a channel that interfered with my zigbee network when I did the latest updates.

Have you shut down and unplugged the hub for 30 seconds? Its the only way to restart the actual zwave radio hardware.

Thanks ill try that now, just 30 seconds

Yes, really 10 is plenty but we say 30 for impatient people who will turn 30 into 10.

I believe my issues are zigbee as most all of my ligjting and mition sensors are zigbee

Ok i shutdown the hub and actually waited 1 minute , see if that works

So that didn’t seem to work I unplugged the hub waited still having issues.

The bathroom motion sensor has said it’s active over 5 minutes now and the motion sensor has a timeout of like 30 seconds or 1 minute. No one is in the area.

I went in the hub by ip address tried trying off bedroom hall lights the log said they tired off but the lights didn’t turn off they were still on .

Same with bedroom hall motion I see the led light on motion sensor light up but in the Hubitant shows not triggered.

The isssue seems to be with all third reality motion sensors and bulbs . They are zigbee

Ok for some reason the hub isn’t picking up any of my zigbee motion sensors. I’ll watch the status of it in Hubitat and it’s not changing if when there is motion and I can see the red led on the sensor light up . It’s doing the same thing to 6 of the sensor all the same type third reality tired removing the batteries from motion sensor still doesn’t work

You might need to re-pair them with the hub. Since they are Zigbee, they will include just as they were. Occasionally, I have had to delete then re-add them back in. If so, create a Virtual Motion Sensor, and do a Swap Device. Delete unused motion sensor, re-add new, then Swap again. Delete virtual sensor.

If you haven’t already, i’d enable debug logging on the device, to be sure there aren’t any driver issues contributing to the issue. You can also use the settings > zigbee details page to see if the last message or msgs fields increment.

To force all your all zigbee devices into panic mode by shutting down the hub for 15mins or longer which can also help.
Finally what slate recomended…

So look to me the WiFi 2.4 and zigbee is on the same 20 channel . I could be wrong, or is the hub on 14

Zigbee 20 is fine if you are using 2.4ghz wifi channel 1. 2.4ghz wifi channels 6 - 11 could provide some interference .

Your Zigbee is on 20, and your Wifi is on 9, which land RIGHT on top of each other.

Change your Hub to 25 if you prefer to the let router pick its own channel, or change your router to a fixed channel of 1 or 6 if you want to keep the hub on 20.

I’m sorry not sure what you mean by right on top of each other. I just which my WiFi 2.4 to control ch 5 . What should I put the WiFi 2.4 ch at

In dense areas it's impossible to avoid 2.4GHz interference. Minimize by choosing only channels 1, 6, or 11 for your WiFi. Make sure the channel width is 20MHz. No auto anything.

Bandwidth should be 20,
Try channel 1 for the Wifi, if it is not performing well you can try 6 instead. If you have a lot of close neighbors and you have any android devices you can get free Wifi scanner apps to see where the least interference will be.

Personally I like putting the hub at channel 25 for Zigbee, it has the least chance of interference from myself or any neighbors who could use any Wifi channel they want.

Once you get the Wifi away from your Zigbee, I would try pairing one of the problem devices again. With Zigbee they just drop right back into place on the hub to there is no harm in doing this. If that works you may need to re-pair all the ones not working.

Here are two better diagrams (this one the red lines are Wifi).

This one shows the spread of each Wifi channel with 20Mhz

How does this look on the router side I went with 6 ch 20/40 the Hubitat stayed on 20

Does it not have an option for just 20Mhz? You do not want 40Mhz at all. The only time it would be good to use is if you are out in the middle of no where totally by yourself and you have nothing else using 2.4Ghz (Bluetooth, Zigbee, etc..).

Here is what the Wifi channel spread is on 40Ghz (shows Wifi numbers only)

Yes i can change it to 20 only instead of 20/40 . I'm in assembly of a rural area. However I do have neighbors. Ill change it back to 20 and control ch 6

I just test the motion sensors and they are working again . It seems that the wifi router was messing up my zigbee network. Im stocked it didnt have this problem sooner as my router 2.4 has always been on auto and its been ran that way for years. For some reason, the Wi-Fi router must have switched right in the time.I was doing those updates.

So just if i'm clear , if I leave the habitat zigbee ch at 20 on my router 2.4 i should be on channel 1 or 6 correct?
