Hub dead?

I received my hub today and plugged it in about an hour ago. It registered, updated, rebooted and setup no problems. Added my first migrate ST switch no worries. After dinner added Alexa, app and went to log into it on the iPad. I got an error about the hub not being the correct version (seeing it on here somewhere). Went back to log into my hub it did not respond (page to not connect). I noticed the hub had no light so I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Still no light. let it sit for 5 minutes, no lights. :frowning:

Dead?

Check the ac plug or move to another wall plug and the power plug to the hub as well. Just in case it's loose otherwise sounded like a dead hub.

I tried another outlet and another psu with same voltage and neither worked. Thinking bad hub

Contact @bobbyD and he'll help you get to the bottom of the issue and hook you up with the right solution.

Thanks for the shout out. A replacement hub is on its way. We believe the problem is the power supply adapter but we will confirm upon returning hub is received.

That's the second case of bad power supply I've heard. Kudos to @bobbyD for doing the right thing but is this indicative of poor hardware? Not trying to stir the pot.

I'm sold on Hubitat, so I'd buy a Pro model with beefier specs and less generic Chinese Linux box. Just putting it out there.

Power supplies are not made by the same manufacturer of the hub. I don't think I own an item where the company that makes the product, also makes the power supply. Maybe Apple, but I doubt that it comes from a factory they own, but rather one they license. Even items where the power supply is embedded have power supply components sourced from another manufacturer.

Nothing has been determined about the hub itself at this point.

Yea I know that each component comes from some far off land. I'm just saying my sniffer detects some hardware deficits, which is fine for a growing platform, but it would be nice to have a beefier option that wouldn't get bogged down with doing things every second.

I come from the world of industrial automation, where each device is polled at the rate of milliseconds... But the controllers are the price of a small German car... Meet me 1/3rd the way Hubitat? lol

Same here my friend. Used to work with 3 million dollar digital presses you walked into to clean the print heads! But that comparison is not valid against my Epson Workforce. Doesn't mean it's not a good printer and I can't rely on it.

Yea my mind explodes when I hear these companies try to justify why their processors cost what they do.

My friend has Home Assistant and when he moved from Raspberry Pi to an Intel NUC obviously everything got faster. It would be to have a second option. One that I could beat up with dumb erroneous code that wouldn't blink at refreshing devices every second if I wanted to.

Who knows if Zigbee or Z-Wave could even take such a beating though.

It's Hubitat V2 pro. With Bluetooth and WiFi.:zipper_mouth_face:

Ugh yea. I mean they know better than that here...
I still laugh about the Bluetooth every time I look at that white round rectangle...

The least they could have done was integrate with MySmartBlinds...

Bobby has gone over and above with communication and shipping me some replacement power supplies next day! I should have them tomorrow and if they do not work he has timed out the replacement unit to be here when I return from an upcoming trip. Best customer service I had seen in a long time. REFRESHING!!!

I'd agree with this point as well. One of the biggest turn offs WAS the protruding USB stick (not to mention it is on the opposite side from the power and NIC so now it really says "Hey look at me!"). I have not been able to test the reliability yet, but from what I hear (and see from CS) it is miles ahead of the sexier ST hub that currently frustrate me to no end.

However this will come with time I am sure. As a business owner I understand the cost that goes into getting a business started. To some extent you need to get a viable product to market and rebuild capital while developing better product lines. It takes time, and hopefully with support, HE will grow to be all that and MUCH more!

IMHO if they keep up the level of concern that @bobbyD showed me, they won't have a problem keeping customers around; and product improvements, enhancements, and offerings will follow suit.

Keep up the good work fellas!

Yeah the protrusion is undesirable but I think most people, myself included hide their network equipment somewhere or of site. I made sure the second time I got ISP installation that the tech pulled the cable to where I wanted it.

My one note about Hubitat so far is that the z-wave and zigbee range is less than ST. No big deal as long as you've got enough AC powered devices that usually act as repeaters. Although my plug in module failed to act as a repeater. I found another device to use instead.

Post any questions on the forum, the community is amazing here.

It also "kind of" a hidden benefit in certain scenarios. I have my hub in a closet with my Hue hub, Caseta hub and a eero wifi node. I never liked the idea of having my hub so close to potential interference so I have 10ft USB extender cable attached so I can keep the zwave/zigbee stick outside the closet.

For those interested, I tried the new power supply units @bobbyD sent me next day and this faint purple light is all she'll squeak out.

HE Hub - TechMedX (page will only be up for the day, while reviewed)

New hub is in route.
