Hub (c7) Loses connectivity to network intermittently

I have to reset my hub (c7) by cycling power in order to use it.
It seems to lose connectivity every 3-5 days.
It has a dedicated ip address with my router so there should not be any IP conflicts.
Platform version is 2.3.9.162

The hub has internal Zwave and Zigbee radios that are independent of the Ethernet connectivity.

Your description has me focusing on the Ethernet ( or Wifi, you don't state which ) connection. Assuming you have some Zwave or Zigbee devices, do those work before, during and after you detect lost connectivity? In other words are the Rules operating normally for those devices?

To me, because my system is mature, I don't poke at the GUI much any more. I have 5 hubs and 4 of them are "Production Hubs" that run my house, one is a Development hub and I'll poke it several times a week to help with answering questions in this community.

That said, I cannot remember the last time I tried, and failed, to reach a hub (typically for doing upgrades) in several years. I don't hard code their IPs on the hub, instead, I create DHCP reservations based on the MAC address (found on the bottom of the hub.)

Maybe you can give us more details of what "lose connectivity" means to you.

If you are power cycling it (without properly shutting down from settings), than you may have a corrupt database. An easy thing to do is to go into Settings/Reboot, then select show advanced options, and select rebuild database on reboot. Also, what @csteele said.

I tried to be very intentional when explaining the connectivity issue for the reasons you mentioned, but I clearly didn’t do a great job—so let me restate it more clearly.

The Hubitat hub intermittently drops (or disappears) from my home network. Prior to the drop, all devices are connected and functioning normally. Once the hub drops off the network, the devices obviously stop working.

As soon as I reboot the hub, it is immediately recognized on my network, and all devices automatically reconnect and function correctly without any additional intervention.

The core issue I need to identify is **why the hub itself is dropping from the home network in the first place.

Regarding my home network, I do not have any other network devices that experience connectivity issues with my router/home network. Only the Hubitat devices intermittently disconnects

The Z-devices should continue to operate because they are independent of the home network (ethernet).

If true, then you may have a power problem... Does the LED remain Green?

IF the Hub is powered, the LED is green, then the ZRadios are alive too, as is the CPU. That set of components will work even if you have no working ethernet.

Do the LEDs for the ethernet port on your router (the other end of the hub's wire) indicate a working port? (lit and flickering?)

I have to guess at a more complete list of symptoms at the time of the lost connectivity...

  • The hub remains powered, LED is green.
  • The Diagnostic connection has not been tested. (port 8082)
  • The ZDevices work normally, network devices don't.
  • The GUI connection is all that's missing.

The most common reason we encounter for "Hub lost network connectivity" is that the hub acquired a different IP Address and of course, there's no way to guess what it might be. Eventually the hub will check for an update and FindMyHub will see the new address, but that's a long wait just to get a confirmation.

I have more guesses but that's not going to be much help...

Can you describe your home network in more depth. Are there any devices using jumbo ethernet frames on the same LAN as the C-7?
