How to “test” new motion sensor?

I just got a hubitat and tomorrow a thirdreality motion sensor arrives. Just wondering in advance how I go about actually “testing”/configuring the motion sensor for placement and any sensitivities/adjustments etc?

I have a large deep garage and front to back is almost 30 feet, with a door at the back and door at the front side. I’m HOPING I might be able to place a single sensor near the front to catch entry from either door.

But how do I actually go through the setup testing, check status in real-time, ignore any cooldown/etc stuff? This is my first time working with smart home stuff.

I would strongly recommend setting up a mesh with some zigbee repeaters before anticipating reproducible reports from an end-device.

Some motion sensors have an LED on the front for just this purpose... not sure about thirdreality. What I would do is set up HE wherever it is going to be, then take the motion sensor to the location you would like to have it, and using the mobile app see if you can pair it. If you can, you may have to mount it temporarily and play with the range by looking at the device page on your phone.

I'm gonna guess you'll end up needing some repeaters to build out your zigbee network though!

Yeah what @aaiyar said

The Third Reality motion sensor I have does have a red LED when motion is detected but it's not really bright as it's behind the plastic case. But it should be bright enough for testing.
