I have a Button Controllers app that turns everything off when button 4 is pressed.
I use it mostly when we goto bed at night .. but also use it when we leave
the house .. it turns off all lights and locks the door.
I would like the door to lock ONLY when its after 9pm : not sure how to do this.
or how to add it to my current [Button Controllers] app.
Help ?
This is easy to do in RM. I am not certain it can be done in BC, although admittedly, I haven't used BC in a long time.
I'm pretty sure this can be done by adding a Simple Conditional Action. If after 9 then lock zwave door. Although, the more I think about it you may have to use between two times.
ok tried that ..
but i get this ..
IF (Time between 9:00 PM and 11:59 PM FALSE) On: V-BUTTON-LOCK-DOOR
Why Do it say false ? I am confused ..
I'm not sure where you are but it's probably because the time is not between the times you listed.
So at 9pm .. that will say true ? Ok .. well I guess we will see..
thanks for the help !
You should see a toggle switch for "display current values" while you are editing actions for this rule.
Presumably it is toggled on for your rule, since you are seeing the current value of the condition.
You can keep it toggled on or off. It doesn't affect how the rule runs, it only changes what is displayed while you are looking at the page. It's a personal preference.
Button controller went through several iterations in the last few years, so I'm pretty sure it depends on the version of a button rule. The current version should function (pretty much?) identically to rule machine wrt actions including conditionals, etc.
But I still have some active button controller child rules that are older and wouldn't have the same options.
Hmm, not that screen. Click "done editing action" to go back one page.
Do you see it there?
Ah ~! I see it now !
Yeap its turned on .. well thats cool .. did not know that was a thing LOL
I've tried to do conditional values before and always get weird stuff like this and thought I was doing it wrong because it would say false when it was supposed to say true Etcetera and I was always afraid it wasn't gonna work so I tried to stay away from it LOL
Yeah I find it helpful while I'm actually looking at a rule, since in general that probably means I'm editing or otherwise debugging it somehow. So it's useful to know the current status of any conditions the rule references.
But for people that don't like it, it can be toggled off.
Also .. I was always wondering if I should but a exit command after last commands.
Or not ? At least in button controller i've never used the exit command I assume it just kind of does it on its own without it
Not necessary, AFAIK.
Thanks for your help gentlemen I appreciate it!
I would add one thing… Your “Off” - delayed by 30 minutes is outside of your if condition, so be aware that after 30 minutes of the rule running, V-Button-Door Contact will always be turned off, regardless of if it was turned on by the rule or not.
I had something like this but with RM. One thing to consider is when after 9:00 PM ends. You have shown midnight but what if you had guests that left at 12:30AM? Maybe it doesn't matter to you. Just a thought.
Yeah.... That's the way I want it .
I have a different app that checks that v. Button.
Anyway should work .. thanks for the heads up!
