I have had this device running on ST for several years and had only one issue. When we had a power outage I had to Z-Wave (re)include the device. Annoying but because we had so few power outage I lived with it.
Last summer we had an outage but this time, after reincluding it, it no longer reported any data. I did a factory reset but that didnt help. I decided to then port it to Hubitat.
I had little problems including this device but, like on ST, the device would not report any parameters except a bizzare voltage number ( * voltage : 2147483.5) I have tried every imaginable driver and none seem to make any difference. The latest driver is name: 'Aeotec Home Energy Monitor (Gen 5)', author: 'Taylor Vierrether'
I am guessing my problem is hardware related but wonder if I could purchase a new unit and use the clamps from my current device. Reason being, I do not want to open the electric panel to remove the clamps and install the new ones. My question though is, could the actually clamps be defective? They were installed professionally and cannot move unless the panel cover is removed. Ideally I would simply hook up a new unit to the existing installed clamps. Think that would work?
The clamps are simple coils with perhaps a load resistor. The likely hood of them going bad are very remote. Especially both of them, assuming the device can report something if at lease one is working.
As for a new one, I would simply ask Aeotec if the clamps have changed.
Do you have a multi meter? If so you should be able to get some AC voltage out of the clamps if they are working.
The Gen5 I believe was the last model they made, so you should be able to find another one on eBay. The reason I know, is that I have the older version and the Gen 5 clamps are not backwards compatible.
I finally bit the bullet and I'm going to replace all mine with an IoTaWatt. I like the fact I can have so many clamps on one unit and thanks to @ogiewon it's directly integrated into HE...
I am also seriously looking at alternatives. The problem I have with the Zw095 is that I have no way of telling what appliances are driving up my electric bill. The multiple clamps option is very appealing
i have 3 of these. in two houses.. one for total power in each house and one for dryer reporting..
i have found that you should not put batteries in them. I always thought they were for backup when power was out, but in actuallity is seems to only use battery if they are installed and when they die it drops of the network.
iotawatt is my fourth or fifth whole home monitor and is by far the best. The updates are almost instant, flexible configuration and thanks to @ogiewon the integration to HE is the perfect scenario.
This was a secret from me. I had not heard of it. My GEN2 is still working great but if I can monitor other circuits in the box, this may be on the short list for my next project.
I dont really understand the options/packages they provide. It appears you buy the base unit then add clamps on top of that(?). If I am right and add up the cost of the unit + say 8 clamps, this option does not come cheap. With shipping costs and currency conversion (US-> CAN) it will set me back just short of $500.
