The Reddit thread is about Amazon's move to monetize Alexa's wonderful "homely assistance". But there are some gems in here; lessons for every new dabbler in Home Automation.

Keep it simple... despite the temptation to go crazy with whizz-bang automation of everything,
...automate what REALLY matters/helps/saves time, and don't entrench too deeply in any solution....
especially where unsupported customization(s) can become a trap-of-reliance entailing frustrating re-work elsewhere (or another way) later.

Do we really need to read through a Reddit thread to learn the lesson that it’s kinda silly to introduce a cloud dependency between you and the lights several feet above your head that you want to adjust?
