Home assistant integration (HE > HA)

Yep, I agree that the magic combination of Zigbee controller chip, Zigbee software stack, and Zigbee repeaters can create an Aqara friendly Zigbee mesh network. I am glad to hear you found a combination that has been working well for you!

I know from my testing, that my Lowes Iris v2 (3210-L) outlets do not play well whatsoever with Aqara temp/humid and vibration sensors. This was true on my C3, C5, C7, and C8 Hubitat hubs. However, since I have so many other Iris v2 motion, contact, and leak sensors - I am not willing to change my Zigbee repeaters as my Zigbee mesh has been rock solid for years. It definitely can help having all devices from a single vendor.

Oh I hear you. When I had them on my main zigbee mesh I thought I fixed the problems by removing three ST outlets leaving mostly sonoff outlets in place at that time. But I still experienced random disconnects. It could have been the sonoff - most of them are gone now and replaced with Sengled and thirdreality - but I am not going to upset a working solution to try them again. They are definitely “unique” and have to be treated with kid gloves.

How did you implement modes and HSM into the HA dashboards ?

Sorry, I don't. I do all of my modes on the HA side.

Thank you

Great summary! I've been pleased with my C7 when it comes to Z-wave and Lutron (integration) devices. I'm finding that WiFi devices are much harder to integrate.

  • Iv'e been playing with some Tapo Switches and Relays (works great on Hubitat with Matter via Google hub)
  • Tapo sensors via a H200 Hub (have not been successful with this at all, not even when using Matter)
  • Shelly plus Relays (I was able to connect but the status update is just too slow)

So, If I would get a HA green, would that be all I need or would I be better of getting a Yellow? I would mostly just use the HA for devices that don't easily connect to Hubitat and most likely would still use Hubitat Rule machine to make automations.

Maybe later create some dashboards in HA.

In my opinion, the reason to use HA with Hubitat is to use Hubitat with devices that aren’t supported by Hubitat. In my case, that means Litter Robot and SurePet pet doors. I also use it for Somfy and ratGDO even though there are community-written drivers for Somfy and ratGDO, primarily because I can easily do firmware updates for ratGDO (and other esp32 devices) in HA, and because, in my opinion and experience, the network stack is more reliable in HA than Hubitat.

The HA matter development seems a bit ahead of the Hubitat matter development.

That said, now to answer your question about choosing HA Green vs. HA Yellow. There may be Zigbee or Z-Wave devices that are supported by HA but not by Hubitat. If it’s a Z-Wave device that you need on HA to bring into Hubitat, you will need to add Z-Wave to HA. This can either be done by adding a ZAC-93 inside the HA Yellow (as I have done) or adding a Z-Wave dongle (or SkyConnect) to either of the HA flavors.

Personally, I don’t prefer dongles, and also, I am not that price sensitive. At the time I bought my HA Yellow, there was no such thing as an HA Green.

Comments in the text you quoted about the HA Yellow requiring some setup and configuration (as compared to HA Green), while true, are no big deal. I was able to configure my HA Yellow in a couple of hours, and I am 74. You youngsters should be able to do it much more quickly.

So, whichever one you choose, you will be fine.

I should note, for those concerned about the HA case color matching the color scheme of their home or the color of their router, neither HA option is white.

For those not liking color of Hubitat or HA cases - Get a Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3d printer, and you can print a custom case exactly as desired. WAY easier that doing smart home automations, etc, since the Bambu Lab printers were released to be the iPhone of 3D printers. Even and old 60 year old like me can figure it out an print lots of cool tools, tool stuff.

I just added the Hubitat Integration for Home Assistant not to be confused with the Home Assistant Device Bridge integration.

I am a long time Hubitat user and new to Home Assistant. I started using Home Assistant because of it's powerful Dashboards and the ability to easily integrate my Reolink cameras.

I am still very happy with Hubitat's hardware and automations and I wasn't looking forward to removing all my Zigbee / Z-wave devices and adding them to Home Assistant

as well as recreating my many automations.

I was already familiar with Hubitat's Maker API so setting up Hubitat Integration for Home Assistant was easy.

And I can now see and use the Hubitat devices of my choosing in Home Assistant.
