Hey all, really hoping someone will be able to help with this but the signs aren't looking good.
Earlier in the day I heard what sounded like a high pitched ringing, almost like the sound an old hard drive makes when spinning up. I didn't piece together that it was inside so I went about my day. Moving forward to now approx 6 hours later, automations were still working throughout the day but I noticed that the noise was coming from my hub (C8 running 2.3.6.146, only 6 months old with the original power supply) which had now shown a solid blue light and wasn't reachable.
It was unresponsive when trying to connect to it via IP so after waiting for 10min, I unplugged the Hub and attempted to reboot it. It then proceeded to show no light whatsoever and the high pitched ringing has now been replaced with a steady pace of clicks, sounding like a failed hard drive.
I have not been able to access any menus including the diagnostic menu so I'm unsure where to proceed next. I haven't changed any of my automations/added any new apps in a few months, there hasn't been any power outages either and there hasn't been any issues or bugs with performance until today.
If anyone could help with my next steps or would like any more info on this, please let me know.
UPDATE: Found a power adapter lying around to see if that could be the issue and it turns out it was, the included power supply must have failed. I will keep this post here in case someone else experiences the same issue as it was very sudden and will update if anything else weird happens.
I may have had something similar with a small power board I bought from Amazon to fit into a cable-management box, which started making a whistling / disturbing noise for an electrical device. Things plugged into it were promptly moved to other power sources or locations, and I am yet to complete the fix (i.e. have everything back where it should be).
