HERMES : Enable your hub to call 911 with no additional hardware

Looking for greater control, customization, and reliability in an emergency response?

With HERMES you connect your home to 24/7 dispatch WITHOUT:

  • Needing proprietary hardware
  • Storing your data outside of your hub
  • Relying on cloud-based monitoring

But how?

I’m Mike of the HERMES automation team. We’re a small team of automation enthusiasts launching something exciting for Hubitat users.

HERMES: Home Dispatch Solution™ is a smart-home alarm and emergency response service that connects your Hubitat ecosystem with trained dispatchers who can automatically send police, firefighters, and EMS in the event of an emergency. The process is:

  1. One of your custom alarms, triggers, or switches gets tripped, sending a signal to your Smart Hub
  2. The alarm type and provided critical household information (pet, medical, sensor, etc.) is automatically sent to 24/7 dispatch powered by Noonlight
  3. A text confirmation and calls are sent to everyone in your circle of trust. The alarm can be canceled with their individual secret PIN
  4. If the emergency is confirmed or there is no response, then the appropriate emergency service is sent to your home

My only thought on this is that if someone is going to rely on the Hubitat Hub as being dependable enough for security, they can also rely on their hub automated alert methods to work for them.

This service is only as dependable as the hub and the internet connection is, since it relies on Hubitat for the sensors. There are certainly people in this community that have decided they do not want to base their home security on Hubitat being up and working 24/7. I see lots of posts about connecting other professional security systems to Hubitat, so that Hubitat can act as a monitor and controller, without depending on Hubitat to be always up.

There could be a niche group that would be interested in this though, so it is not a bad idea. I actually find my Hubitat uptime to be very good, and I run some "critical" systems with it, but not security.

Interesting option. It would be really helpful if you could compare Hermes to Noonlight. Both the services are priced very similarly. And there is a Noonlight integration for Home Assistant and Hubitat.

P.S. On your sub-Reddit, it seems to indicate that Hermes uses Noonlight. If that is the case, I'm not understanding what Hermes offers that end-users cannot get directly from Noonlight?

All valid critiques, and I don’t disagree with them. I’d also add that many of the same limitations apply to a lot of newer security systems on the market today, often at a much higher cost.

I’ve personally seen professionally installed systems fail in ways that caused significant property damage, despite costing several times more per month. Cost alone doesn’t guarantee reliability.

You’re absolutely right about dependencies: this only works if the internet is up, and it depends on the hub. That said, not every commercial system includes cellular backup either, and hub reliability can be meaningfully improved with proper setup and maintenance; things this community already does well. For example, regular maintenance, sensible logging, and even running multiple hubs to divide workloads so critical logic isn’t impacted by day-to-day automations.

Ultimately, this isn’t trying to be “security for everyone.” It’s aimed at DIY-savvy, tech-comfortable users who:

  • already trust their Hubitat environment,
  • want flexibility instead of a walled-garden ecosystem,
  • don’t want to overpay for hardware and monitoring,
  • care about keeping their home data private and purpose-limited,
  • and want a system that can call for police, firefighters, and EMS.

For people who want a fully turnkey, traditional alarm system, there are already good options out there. This is meant to serve a different audience... and that’s okay.

Appreciate the thoughtful perspective. Discussions like this help make the boundaries and expectations clearer for everyone.

Great question. We worked closely with Noonlight's technical team to expand on their current API to allow for the transfer of more information to emergency services. We added the ability to put in pets, medical info for the entire family, utility shutoffs, and expanded on the possible sensors that they can accept. That is just some of what we did!
Please note : WE DO NOT SAVE YOUR INFO... like some other companies...

Hi everyone, it’s been a little while since I last posted here, so I wanted to share a quick update as we’re now about 3 weeks into Early Access for HERMES Home Dispatch Solution.

What is HERMES?

HERMES Home Dispatch Solution is a smart-home alarm and emergency response service that connects your Hubitat ecosystem with Noonlight's trained dispatchers who can automatically send police, firefighters, and EMS in the event of an emergency. It is not a traditional monitored alarm system, instead, it allows your system to trigger emergency dispatch and share the relevant information you choose, helping responders act more effectively.
