Have I grossly misunderstood the concept of schedules in Rule Machine ... if so I do apologize. I simply want lights on and lights off at sunrise/sunset + offset every day. I cannot get this to work at all.
I would use simple lighting for this. If there are not a bunch of conditions, then set it up using simple lighting instead of rule machine. IMHO
Exactly! Let's not reinvent the wheel. Simple lighting is the win. Just my opinion.
Super simple with RM.
If time is between sunset + offset and sunrise + offset, turn on, else turn off.
I don't have offsets on this rule but it's the same concept.
I'm going to stick with @squidbilly here. While I see lots of times people want to show "other" ways of doing it...which IS great. I don't see why what he has shouldn't work. So I think there are 2 questions here.
- Why doesn't this work as is.
- What are ways can this be done.
#2 has been answered. I have rules using a schedule that work (they run custom commands) so why wouldn't his? Mine use a specific time, his is using "sunrise/sunset" maybe an issue there?
@squidbilly do you get any log entries at your specified times?
No, I don't see any log entries.
Thanks for all the help everyone.
I have had similar problems with simple RM apps. We couldn't figure out what the problem was until it was discovered that there seems to be a problem with having Days of the Week as Conditions. If you take that Condition out and instead set it as a Restriction, it should work.
